But deserving of being re-posted!

From the Guardian: "We mocked their make-up and giggled over their gloom. But the goths are taking over the country."

"It could be tough, but being a goth can open up a world where art, current affairs and literature are embraced and openly discussed, perhaps paving the way for future networking."

Edited to add: And an article from the Independent! What, is it Talk About Goths week in the British media and I just missed the memo?

I'm of two minds about this. On the one hand, it's nice not to be called a child-eating Satan worshipper for a change. On the other hand, will goths have to beat the plastic social climbers away with sticks? Any more than usual, that is.

There's an article regarding this same study on the BBC website today, and it uses one of the *most unfortunate* pictures of a 'goth' I've ever seen.

She's not a goth; she just did her hair and makeup (and plastic surgery) in the dark. Singlehandedly. :D

Damn, woman. You weren't kidding. Now I want my eye forks.

Great articles.

I love this line from the first one: "reading (um) the spines of Dostoevsky novels".

There's a lot of truth in there. Utter truth, some crap, &....crappy truth. Pardon my French. :D

I'm pleased to see three things not commonly pointed out: 1) There are many goth professionals 2) goth teens aren't typically hooligans 3) goth morphs, but it's always there to some degree.

"There's a goth couple on Coronation Street."

Hahahhaaaaaaaaa! OMFG, I'd pay to see that. For the uninitiated, Coronation Street is Britain's (and maybe the World's) longest running soap opera, having started some time in the 60's.

I'm sure you could find a torrent of it somewhere.

Also, did they **seriously** quote PARODY as an anti-goth site in the Independent?

Re: And it's on Channel 12 from time to time

If you mean channel 12 on Comcast, unless something's changed in either their lineup or in what KBTC is running (and I seriously doubt the latter), that's "EastEnders."

CBC (Canadian TV) used to run "Coronation Street" on weekends. I have no idea if they still do as we don't get CBC with a dish.

You're so right. Sloppy thinking dominates my world today; made many, many errors at work.

Ah, well.

Oh, wow. I used to watch Coronation Street with my mom when I was a kid... Are any local (or at least American cable) channels showing it these days? I'd LOVE to see a goth couple on that show!

no american cable, but if you're close enough to the canadian border there's this from the corrie wikipedia entry:

American viewers in the parts of the northern U.S. can view CBC's Coronation Street telecasts. In particular, cable TV subscribers in places including Seattle, Buffalo, parts of Michigan and New Hampshire are able to view the programme on CBC affiliates. Other Americans near the Canadian border can view the program via over-the-air reception from nearby CBC transmitters.

Ah, yes. I believe we used to watch it on Canadian Channel 2, CBUT, which is Vancouver's CBC station. i think I get that on my cable...
