As part of my Christmas prezzie, Miss Shechem gave me a page-a-day origami calendar. It's a clever idea - you use the page from the previous day to follow the instructions on the new day, and eventually end up with a collection of little paper animals.

In theory.

Have I mentioned that I'm all thumbs at this sort of thing? That I faithfully follow the instructions, but everything still ends up somewhat crumpled looking?

sigh

I really like the calendar, and I'll gamely keep trying. But I keep thinking that folding little squares of paper shouldn't be this difficult.

Oh, so if I had followed my instincts and done all this search and replace work in Notepad instead of the fancy-pants GUI editing tool, I wouldn't be re-doing it all because said fancy-pants GUI editing tool turns typed < and > symbols into Unicode. Well fine then. I'll do all my XML editing in a plain text environment, as nature intended.

Gaaaah. Never trust the fancy-pants GUI editing tool, this is an important thing to remember.
