Work is going well so far. Tonight, I try sleeping without the aid of medication! (Wish me luck and lots of sleep, please!)

Random Shopping Question: Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find a skirt similar to the one in these photos? Because, ooh, the wanting and the coveting.

(I swear, I will make a post with actual content in the near future. But right now, I'm reading documents about How Stuff Is Done on this team, so I probably shouldn't distract myself with LJ postings. Why am I distracting myself with pictures from Viona Art? Um, good question. I'll get back to you on that ...)

Aw, heck. We can make that skirt, can't we? I'm doing something similar to it for Burning Man in red and gold. It would just take a lot of fabric, but the chiffon at Display and Costume is only $2/yard, and would work fine!

Damn, I want my sewing machine back already. Too many ideas from the Boss Wench booth at the Ren Faire.

I've never made one quite like that, but you're right. I don't think it would be hugely hard (especially since there's plenty of room for error). Lots of material, some gathering & pleating, and maybe some tacking.

And by the way, I must eventually see pictures of that Burning Man costume.

I'd use something a bit stiffer than chiffon...but yeah, a gathering foot and a bit of time, over a cage crinny...I want one too!

Hell, I have both a ruffler and a gathering foot, so only laziness is stopping me....

A ruffling machine and a couple of evenings to cut all the pieces out. [livejournal.com profile] radclife has a ruffling machine, I believe.

There's a machine to do that? Oh man... I was going to do it the long way.

There are also ruffling feet for sewing machines. I picked one up at Joann for maybe $12, tho' if your machine uses some kind of special feet, it might be harder to find or cost more.

I have a steel Pfaff from the 1970s - that thing is pretty heavy duty, so anything's possible. :)

Oh look, Jilli! I found universal model Pfaff shirring feet readily available for under $10! Life is going to get very ...ruffly, soon.

I hope it works better than the ruffling foot/attachment thingamie I have for my (admittedly low-end, probably not-very-well built) White machine. I've played with it a bit, and it doesn't work very well on lace. I may set it back up this weekend and see if it takes to chiffon any better ...

(Someday, some fine day, I will convince my mother that since she doesn't use her very nice Elna machine, it should live at my house. Really. It could happen.)

When ruffling with lace try pining it onto tissue paper and then stitch. When done just tear tissue paper off. Sometimes all a machine wants is a better surface to grip.

I have a spare Viking Ruffler #412 28 00-45 (http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page63.html) if it's of use to anyone - they sent me the wrong one by mistake and didn't ask for the incorrect one back. I was going to bung it up on eBAy as they cost nearly fifty quid, but as it didn't cost me anything, I'm happy to find it a loving home to a fello ruffly skirt fiend

If anyone has an overlock machine with differential feed you can ruffle super fast too! I cranked out ruffles for 2 shams in 15 minutes yesterday. :0 )

Yay jobbal happiness! If you're up at 5 or 6, give me a Google shout. I've been waking up at those hours lately. :S

oh drool!
I want one too...

dammit, you and Alexia are trying to turn me into a girl again, aren't you?

That skirt is two bolts of nylon net and three bolts of patience. :-)

Pretty, though!

Nylon net is scratchy. I'm hoping it's tulle at worst.

I have a skirt just like that except it's white and made of cotton. ;)
