I'm not going to have a lot of time for LJ (and assorted Internetty places I can usually be found) for a bit, because I need to get acclimated to the new job. Tomorrow I finish up New Employee Orientation*, then go to my first meeting with the new team. Whee!

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny has promised me that when he rules the world, mangling words to make marketing or HR -jargon out of them will be a crime punishable by slow torture. Hopefully my instinctive eye-rolling at every utterance of 'onboarding' wasn't too noticeable.

*At the start of today's orientation extravaganza, the HR munchkin was getting random people to "tell their stories" (oooh, sharing with the class! My favorite!), and a guy sitting in the row ahead of me said "A few years ago I interviewed for a different position here, and was in one of the cafeterias for part of it. That young lady (indicating me) walked by wearing the most enormous hat I've ever seen, and I completely lost track of what I was saying for about 15 minutes. It's nice to see she's here, too." I was vastly amused.

WHERE...

...will you be working?

Currently, I only spend 3 hours every couple of days in 31. I *was* 5+ hours most days in 117 (which is a 10 minute walk from home).

You're a national landmark! Check in every so often to tell us you're alive, all right?

LMAO... that made me laugh!!!

You do seem to have that effect on people. ;)

Are you getting your own office or will you be doubled/tripled up like us in RedWest?

Welcome back.

I leave you with this thought. One of my career goals is to become the person who runs NEO.

Congratulations and good luck!

I hate jargony word-mangling. And tiresome new figures of speech. At one day-long meeting I attended, the phrase of the day was, I swear, "it's on our radar screen."

Darn, I forgot to warn you about the chip implant. Hope it wasn't too painful. Oh, yeah, and don't drink the Kool-Aid, no matter how good they tell you it is.

YAY!!!!

NEO was pretty much a waste of time for most anyone with more than 3 or 4 years in the workforce.

I told the HR folks as much. They were NOT amused.
