(This post is mostly for my own reference; I'm going to start keeping better track of my visits from the Insomnia Fairy, and see if there is any sort of pattern to them. I'm glumly certain there isn't and I'm just cursed, but I won't really know unless I start keeping track.)

It's 5:46 AM. I have had, ooooh, about half an hour's worth of sleep, which happened around 3:30.

Last night, I fell asleep sometime after 3:30 AM, but managed to stay asleep. (That was after taking half an Ambien at 1AM, and usually half an Ambien knocks me out in no time at all. It did on Monday night ...)

Tomorrow night (oh fine, tonight, even though I don't think I've had enough sleep for it to count as a brand new day), I will not mess around with this half-an-Ambien nonsense. Especially since on Thursday morning, I have to be in Redmond at 9 AM.

I'm trying very hard not to fall into the trap of taking something to help me fall asleep every night (which is why I didn't take anything tonight). There are times when I despair that sleep only through medication is my fate, and I don't like that notion one little bit.

Since you're doing the WW program, you may also want to use your food diary to record when you drink certain drinks, even if they're supposedly decaffeinated. I found that for me, drinking anything with caffeine after 6 p.m. was a no-no, and that even decaf sometimes had enough to screw with my sleep cycle, leaving me exhausted but not able to drop into sleep.

I also noticed that if I watched edge-of-the seat type TV shows or movies that went later than 10:00 or so, my mind would be so revved up (even if I wasn't actively thinking about the show), that I would have trouble sleeping.

I'm right there with you. Fortunately my Insomnia Fairy visits have been short, but I went through an entire summer in Ellensburg with less than four hours of sleep a night during the weeks, and then sleeping pretty much my entire weekend once I got to Seattle and was with the boy.

Take the pill early enough that it'll be out of your system by 7. But you know that already.

Nibs takes a trazodone every night. Between the arthritis and her numerous other meds, sleeping without the trazodone seemed to be a lost cause.

I used to take melatonin, but it seemed to lose its effectiveness as my insomia got worse. However, I'm perfectly willing to try it again.
