Viona-Art. Photos of over-the-top gothic gorgeousness. Looking at them makes me feel dissatisfied (in the best possible way, as in I must go work on more extravagance NOW) with my wardrobe, makeup choices, and places to go dress up. I am going to spend DAYS looking at the various photos, gathering inspiration the entire time.

(I found the link on [livejournal.com profile] fashionablegoth, which is a *wonderful* community about, yes, gothic fashion. One of the ground rules of the community is no ads or auction listings, so there are actual posts about a subject close to my heart. I need to read through back entries, but what I've seen so far makes me very happy.)

fashionablegoth community

Wow, what a relief to see fresh discussion of fashion, without a bunch of people-selling-personal-stuff. There are places for that, and people want it... in its place... but it makes discussions dreary to have to wade through ads and auctions. IMO. I like this community. Good find.

I have been a big fan of Viona for a while. The inspiration! The envy! The inevitable shopping!

I would love to join the fashionablegoth community, but for this thread, which makes me want to spit up. A choice quote: "I know lots of people who perfer a gothic style of dress, look great and feel perfectly at ease, and yet dont know Cocteau Twins from Evanescence. Maybe there's something to be said for knowing your history. But I would argue that there really isnt. ;)"

My vocabulary of expletives and blasphemies is helpless before such an ass-hatted line of thought.

Well, my take on it is that there is ALWAYS someone in goth communities that says something along those lines, so I just ignore them.

Yes, if you're going to dress in a gothic style, you should be aware of the subcultural history; do some research, do some reading and listening to music. But you know what? I don't think someone should have to be able to name every single band that might have been associated with the goth movement. Heaven knows that not only can I not pass that sort of test, but I wouldn't want to. I like goth music. I also like classical, Brit-pop, New Wave, stage musicals, and some power-pop nu-metal.

... oh dear. I feel a(nother) rant essay about Goth and What It Means To Me coming on.

I wholeheartedly agree (right down to the power-pop nu metal), which is why I went ahead and joined the community. (Well, that and the Viona site. Oh my God, why do German goths look so good? Are they all independently wealthy? Forthcoming diatribe on that...) It's just the gleeful, willful ignorance behind that particular comment that makes me go, "Ick." I know you understand.

You? Work on extravagance?!?

Ok, I need to go hide my plain-ness in a box now.

Wow - what incredibly gorgeous photos!

The skirts in particular!

Darn you. Darn you to Heck for filling me with lust for more clothes and better hair. Just when I was getting complacent in my ability to break ravers' brains (admittedly not all that hard) you come along with this.

Wow. Those are absolutely gorgeous. I want to be photographed like that. This makes me long to do photography so much more now. *sends super healing vibes to back* I can't wait to get back into the world of fantasy.

I want to be photographed like that.

Yes, exactly. Oh my stars, I want to be photographed like that.

Y'know, with this cloudy weather and the really dense forests we have around here, you could do some really creepy model photography with you in it. Like, David Lynch creepy.

Oh yes. I could see this.

Oooh. That gives me tons of ideas. I know lots of wooded areas with creeks and such too. My back needs to hurry and heal up!!!

Oy. The pretty.

Is it my imagination, or is red hair the new black hair? Or is it just a German thing?

Also, maybe it's finally time to buy a corset. To... celebrate becoming a teacher?
