Also because (a) I just got back from one of those tedious mandatory WorkSource "Job Hunting Orientation" workshops, and (b) I had my recurring stress nightmare about having to go back to work at Fred Meyer ::shudder::, it's time for the Usual Job Hunt Post.

So! If any of you know of any technical or programmer editor job openings*, please let me know.

*(I don't really need to say that I don't want to relocate, right? You all know that. Oh, and bonus points for jobs that don't involve a commute across 5-20.)

It's a huge pity (for me, anyway) that you don't want to relocate to my area. We actually have an opening in my dept. for an editor!

Awww, dammit! But yeah, not really keen on the idea of selling the house, packing everything up, and moving.

... I don't suppose they'd let me telecommunte, would they? No, didn't think so.

I've got a fair amount of SDK experience, but not Java. However, I pick things up quickly (usually by asking devs and testers lots and lots of questions). But I'm guessing your company really wants someone with solid Java experience ...

We've got a technical writer on staff now, but we're probably going to need at least one contractor to assist with SDK work inside the next two months.

Yes, it's Java based currently, but as you know the platform doesn't matter so much if the person in question has the right experience.

When the role gets flushed out more, I'll keep you in mind and see if it would be something suitable for you or that you would be interested in.

What about something like a technical trainer position- where most of the job would be teaching people how to use technology after writing the curriculum?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Hmmmm. I've never considered that option. Mind you, I'm willing to bet that I don't have enough training experience to get a job like that, but it sounds interesting.

Eh, our technology isn't exactly cutting edge. The product is a series of tools relating to marketing, sales and the like specifically geared to the luxury travel industry, and the target audience are prototypical end-users, so a good part of the battle is getting them to read the documentation or presenting the material in such a way that it clicks.

Would you want to work for the Evil Empire again? My friend was just bemoaning her crappy editors, and I believe they're hiring a new one. If you want, I'll put you two in contact with each other...

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I'm fine with the idea of working for the EE again. Are you talking about M., who also knows [livejournal.com profile] caliban1227? If so, she already handed my resume to her boss before the holidays. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll hear something from them Real Soon Now ...

From: [identity profile] poetry-lady.livejournal.com

No, it's someone you haven't met, Liza. I'll check back with her and see if they're still looking, and get back to you.

From: [identity profile] poetry-lady.livejournal.com

It's in the Commerce Server group. If you're interested, send me a resume & a letter explaining why you'd be fabulous as an editor. Go ahead and email me at work: dmoliver (at). Liza's getting me the names of people to send it on to, so I'll go ahead and NOT bother with the referral site. :)

I have an interview with the Evil Empire (tm) tomorrow. Needless to say, if things go well, I'll do my best to drag you into the fold if it seems like a Freak Friendly Zone (also a TM).

Much Love.
