I had plans to go to the spa today, and spend my day with very good friends while lounging around in heated pools. Sadly, biology decided to put a cramp crimp in those plans. So instead, I will putter around the house and get a bunch of small sewing chores done. ([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage is off gaming. I hope he's having fun, because he's been looking forward to it.)

Things discovered while getting bits & bobs together for the sewing projects:

  • I have a lot of black fabric-covered buttons in various sizes. This is good, because I didn't feel like taking a bus to & from a fabric store with a decent selection of buttons. (Sadly, the fabric store two blocks from my house doesn't have much in the way of interesting buttons. Or interesting fabric. Lots of yarn, however.)

  • I now fit into a couple of jackets and a vintage dress that I bought three or four years ago, n a bout of optimism that they would eventually fit me. Well, they do, just a bit later than I had hoped. But yay, this sooths my craving for new(ish) clothes!

  • I've lost enough weight that Miss Lucinda, my trusty fitting double/mannequin is larger than me. This makes me both happy and a little freaked out. I am going to need to replace her in the near future; I don't suppose any of you would be interested in buying her, would you? She's one of those fit-doubles that has dials to adjust the bust, waist, and hip measurements, and has been immensely helpful to me for a few years now.

Okay, off I go to sew buttons and add trim to things.

I am very admiring and envious of those who have sewing skills. I'd sew my thumb to my hand if given half a chance. There's a woman in the Dark Victorian community that makes the most luscious, original purses.

If you get too bored, there's always my bbq tonight!
6pm, Gasworks, by the bbq pits, under the shelter if weather gets mean...

Yay! Milestone and reward, all in one. :)

Any chance you'll be wearing one of them on Monday?

How high up does the hip dial go for Miss Lucinda? I am wanting to get back into sewing for myself, but if her hips aren't big enough, what's the point, right? (I measure like 54 or so...haven't measured in a couple years.)

I'd love to make my own outfits, except I don't know the first thing about sewing. :|

I didn't go today either; too many responsibilities, not enough money.

I am instead occupying myself by dealing with all the laundry that's built up over way too long a time.

I am beginning to think I have too much clothing. Yes, I know, but it really has gotten to that point.

And there are still two boxes of "to be mended/dyed" to be dealt with.

However, doing these things definitely has the "hey, new clothing without spending money!" effect.

Miss Lucinda's highest possible measurements are 50"-43"-52".

If nobody wants to buy the mannequin, do you have enough room to keep her out for display items? Whenever I have space, I love to deck out my dressform in a pretty outfit, just to look at. And if I ever make a properly fitting duct-tape dummy, my old dressform will be kept around for display.

1) Congratulations on the weight loss!
2) Do you think Miss Lucinda could be adjusted to mimic me? If so, I'm interested.

1. Thank you! ::beams::

2. Unless we pad you to have a 44" bustline, probably not.

How exciting! I am so happy for you. :0 )

I really want the dress form and will pay you for it.

So in other words, if you have 52" hips, you have to have the equally big bust/waist? Because the waist along would kill Miss Lucinda for me--I think mine's about 34-35, with the 54" hips. (Hence my wanting a dress form--I think I'll have to make a duct-tape one...)
