The weather right now is glorious. Cool, overcast (but not rainy!), and blustery. I ate my lunch sitting at one of the tables outside the cafeteria that overlooks the little man-made pond on our section of the corporate campus. Perfect, perfect weather, especially for looking up from re-reading Something Wicked This Way Comes in time to see brilliant red leaves blowing by. After lunch, I went for a quick walk around the campus park, and collected a handful of red & gold leaves. I'm going to put them on the little scrap of wall next to my desk.

There is a particular scent I associate with this time of year, and I've searched endlessly and without success to find a perfume that captures it. It smells like falling leaves, damp earth, rain, and blackberries. I notice it whenever I walk outside (except in urban areas, of course), even if there are no blackberry bushes nearby. I noticed it while on my walk just a few minutes ago, and there are no blackberry bushes on this part of the office park. As much as I know my One True Perfume is sugary and makes me smell like a very expensive box of chocolates, there are times I wish I could smell like autumn.

In my perfect world, this is what the weather is like all the time. With maybe a week or so of sunny, brisk days, and one weekend of snow. But mostly, it would just be perpetual, beautiful autumn.

I like your perfect world. People in my office think I'm nuts, they like those hot sunny days. Give me terminal Autumn and I'd be a happy camper.

Mmm, I think I'd buy that autumn perfume.

Yeah, I get euphoric every autumn, too. I get this feeling of anticipation every year about this time and have since I was a small child, but I've never figured out what it was that I was anticipating. Yes, I love the smell of spring and sunlight makes me bliss out, but there's nothing quite like fall.

I have my October Metro pass. It's a pretty color (purple), which accoring to Wendian superstition is auspicious.

blackberry brambles are by far my favorite natural scent. Well, besides apple orchards. The house I spent my adolescence in was covered in blackberry bushes and brambles. I spent soooo much time in the little woods behind my house, and the smells of soil and water and decaying leaves all mingled together.. well, it smells like home.

That smell drifting past the honeysuckle vines that hung over my window, coupled with the smell of a musty old book is the way my childhood smelled.

I am too in love with the weather today. It is beautiful, and there are little splotches of color on the green hills. Ahhh...soon there will be more colors. I *love* autumn. Especially the wind. It's just gorgeous.

A lot of my coworkers keep complaining that it's all depressing outside and are going on about it. I just keep smiling and saying how wonderful it is while they stare at me. lol

I'm loving the weather as well. I didn't go so far as to eat outside in it, but I've enjoyed walking back and forth through it. The smell, the wind, and the feel of the air is wonderful.

the weather is perfect of a tea party. Have you found you and your people for this sunday? I really want to get the leaves.

*hopes*

While I do love the heat of late summer, and all the pain-free days it brings, I do myself enjoy that autum feel, scent, and sounds. I love the crisp mornings with sun, I love the drizzly days with the splotches of reds and yellows. I love the bluster, which can be one minute chill, then the next warm and gentle. It's sort of a feeling like falling in love...

Autumn is by far my favourite time of year. Winter snow I enjoy, but we get too much rain. Spring, again, is a time of rain and dirty snow. Summer tends to be too hot.

I want such a perfume as well, and I've now tried three BPAL scents looking for it and been disappointed.

crashing your journal to say I keep finding clothes that I think of you when I see. Like this, at Newport News ($50!) http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000B0KL9.01-A2VRS7MJ55H1GA._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
and check out Dress a Day today for a link to some pointy boots. :-)

Aaaaugh! That is the faux-Edwardian jacket of doom! It has such a lovely, deceptive picture, and then when you have it in your hot little paws, you discover it's made of not-very-good velvet, the proportions are odd and don't look good on anyone, and it's just not very happy-making. I had to restrain a very good friend from setting it on fire, she was so disappointed with it.

I *always* look at Dress a Day, silly lady. In fact, I've been finding all sorts of dresses on eBay I keep meaning to send you for it.

From: [identity profile] orthoepy.livejournal.com

Thank you for the warning! I was thisclose to ordering it, which would be silly as I don't wear the velvet stuff I *have*.

I try not to assume people read Dress a Day. The Internet is a big place! But thank you ... :-)

You do *not* work at RedWest, do you? :P

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Yes I do, as a matter of fact. RedWest A. If you've caught sight of a Victorian-esque gothy-goth girl wearing a top hat wandering around, that would be me.

(So, because I'm curious about these things when new people post: hi there! Who are you, and how did you find my journal of random babbling? ::grin::)

From: [identity profile] schmi.livejournal.com

You know, I've heard about you from my colleagues (when I turned up with blue-green extensions at work), but I didn't put two and two together until I saw this post of yours. I've been here almost a year, but for some reason, I've never ever seen you, although I've seen one other goth-girl with red hair?

We weren't formally introduced, but I saw you at the Terry Pratchett book signing. I was with Cajun and Blacky on the staircase. I even have a pic of you posted in my Pratchett post. ;)

Hope you don't mind me adding you. I was intrigued when they told me you were Gothic Miss Manners. I used to lurk on your site!

::scurries off to look at picture::

Heh. It's gotten to be a bit of a running joke w/ Duane, the event organizer for the UW bookstore; when PTerry is there for a reading, he asks Duane if I'm there. I get quite giddy about it every time.

Sure, add me! I will add you, if you don't mind.

The Gothic Miss Manners site is slowly transforming into www.gothic-charm-school.com, and will be ready for public viewing sometime in early October. I'm very flattered that you used to lurk on the old site!

*envies you*

'course I don't mind. We should get lunch some time when I've gotten over this horrible cold. I work over at RedWest-D. We shall squee over Anansi Boys, if you are done reading it.

I'm very flattered that you used to lurk on the old site!
It was really like a blast from the past. I feel privileged! :)

Can't wait for the new site.

In hindsight, I hope you didn't mind that I referred to you as a PerditaX lookalike. I meant it as a compliment, but I can imagine some people might take offense to it.

Have a great evening.
