I have developed a sudden craving for a knee-length, slightly fitted skirt, that has ruffles at the hem. In black. To be worn with any of my batwing-point hem jackets, b&w stripey tights, and granny boots.

See, if I had realized this on Friday, I could have looked for that sort of skirt in any of the gazillion thrift stores I was in over the weekend. But nooooo, I had to think of this today, while sitting at work.

I'm not quite sure where this urge for a knee-length, not worn with petticoats, skirt has come from.

Other shallow-ish appearance things percolating through my brain:

- I am vaguely (very vaguely, I might add) considering having the lowest set of holes in my ears stretched, so I can just stick a set of spiral talons in them and not ever worry about earrings again. I seem to have this thought every time I see [livejournal.com profile] girlgoth and look at the very large-gauge spirals in her ears.

- I think my next tattoo will be placed just above my left wrist. I think. I need to look at the design again to make up my mind, and then I need to start shopping around for a tattoo artist.

...

...

Real content will appear again some day, I promise. Right now, however, I'm sleepy and distracted by clothing.

Hey, I'd much rather read your fluff than what some people think is real content.

knee-length, not worn with petticoats, skirt

once upon a time she wore nothing longer than her knee. She has fantastic legs.

Um... are you running a fever? :P

Yum! Sounds cute.

And I love reading you about fashions. That is real content, I'm sure Oscar Wilde would agree.

Hey- I was wondering if perhaps you can assist me with this. Due to my horrid allergic reactions to the sun, I generally carry a parasol.

My parasol got broken over the winter, and I cannot find any local to me AT ALL.

I did a quick google, and it seems all the remotely useful ones seem to be in the hundreds of dollars. Any suggestions on finding a reasonably priced, workhorse of a parasol?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Well, there's always Dragonfly Design Studio (http://www.dragonflydesignstudio.com), run my my friend [livejournal.com profile] oldhalloween. She sells black (or white) Battenburg lace parasols.

Or, you could scour eBay for a cute parasol/umbrella. I always see nice ones for not-too-horrid prices.

From: [identity profile] martygreene.livejournal.com

I prefer something more solid, although battenburg lace looks nice, it's not so practical keeping the sun off.

The only ones I find on ebay that are in a condition worth getting, are horrid horrid horrid patterned fabrics. Do you know how hard it is to re-cover a parasol?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Oh, believe me, I know. I've re-covered two, and I'm still kind of amazed they turned out well.

I'll poke around some of my usual online haunts and see what I can come up with. [livejournal.com profile] oldhalloween's other business Old Fashion Halloween (http://www.oldfashionhalloween) does sell lovely hand-painted umbrellas which could work as parasols:

Gah I'm a totaly doof. I found a parasol that I liked, and that was going for $10 on ebay because the fabric was so ugly (I'm guessing) I was just going to airbrush it with fabric dye to cover the hideousness, but misread the time left of the auction and missed it! Damn!

From: [identity profile] martygreene.livejournal.com

How knowledgeable are you on parasols in general? dating, materials, etc.? I did some more ebay scrounging, and have a few that I'm eyeing (many of which are listed as "umbrellas", but either I belive they are actually parasols, or they will work just as well) but I'm curious someone's opinion who knows more about the history of these contraptions. I'd like to get a good deal on one, perhaps two or three.

What design do you have in mind for your next tattoo?

From: [identity profile] reddheart.livejournal.com

Wow. I never thought I would live to see the day that Princess MoonBeam would show her ankles intentionally.

Scandalous! :D

as I commented to another user, she used to always wear things that came to her knee. She has fantastic legs. I even have a photo here somewhere...

I *heart* my bone curls. :) I chose the jewelry first, and then stretched up to it. :D

They have little petite ones in bone or metal that are absolutely beautiful. I prefer the bone ones because they are so light and will not stretch out my ears because of weight. If you're ever seriously interested, Apocalypse has quite the collection in all different sizes.

Also, I have acrylic colored ones in red, blue and black, and such so I can still have some change when I go out. ;) No one at work's ever had a problem with them either...tongue piercing yes, 0 gauge curls no. *hee*

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Little petite ones? Different sizes? Ooooh. Because I wasn't sure if I could get curls that wouldn't involve me stretching my piercings to 0 gauge.

Hmmm. Must go to Apocalypse soon-ish.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Eeeee!

I could do 14 gauge. Yep, must wander to Apocalypse soon-ish.

*turns off Hypno-Wheel*

*removes 'Short Straight Skirt' cartridge*

*plugs in 'Sleeveless Shirt' cartridge*

*turns Hypno-Wheel back on*

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

No matter how much you upgrade the Hypno-Wheel, I will not wear sleevless shirts until I have more muscle tone to my arms.

Besides, the skirt won't be completely straight. There will be, as usual, and explosion of ruffles at the hem. So there.
thppppppt.

I stopped wondering how things got into your head years ago. I sleep better (not well, just better)

I this seems like a good time (though I couldn't say why) to re-state the strict no welding tools policy.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Meanie.

I would be perfectly safe with welding tools. I would not be a danger to myself, or most people.

Am I the only person of your acquaintance who would cheerfully supply you with welders and knives and hatchets? What is *wrong* with everybody?

whys and wherefores

why:

It is springtime and it is warm. It is going to get much warmer. Your brain is remembering last summer. You will need shorter skirts. You will need to be cooler this year.

wherefore:

You have always had fantastic legs, and you know it. And I know it. And The Husband knows it. And we may be the only ones who know it anymore. Several of the people who replied here know it too, but seem to have forgotten it entirely.

My comment on this new trend:

about damn time.

From: [identity profile] blueslide.livejournal.com

I saw some skirts of this description at the B-hic-I mean Macy's yesterday, at Northgate, in the clearance rack in the Alfani section, I think. I don't know your size. These were 16. They didn't have an explosion of ruffle, just a lilting sort of ruffle, about 4-5 inches across all around at the hem. Ruffle was just the same fabric as the rest of the skirt but maybe bias cut. Nothing fancy. I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but yeah, about knee-length, black, with a ruffle, and fitted but probably not meant to be tight.
