We took Miss Erzabet No Biting to the vet yesterday; despite her thyroid ear goo, she's lost weight, is still peeing and pooing everywhere, has been throwing up a lot, has been drinking a LOT of water, and has days of sneezing and being listless.
They drew blood, did x-rays, then gave her some fluids, vitamins, and steroids. The vet said that we'll have test results in a few days, but she has lost weight and just looking at her he's pretty sure there's something wrong. On the x-rays her kidneys looked smaller than they should, and her intestines "didn't look right", but he needs the tech to increase the contrast before he can make a diagnosis.
He used the phrase "be prepared in case of end of life procedures are needed". Not a phrase anyone ever wants to hear, and it sent me straight to my anti-anxiety meds.
For all we know, she'll be put on an additional med and she'll be healthy and happy for years. That's what I'm hoping for. Because while I love(d) all of our kitties, past and present, Miss Erzabet No Biting is the spiritual successor to my beloved Dread Beastie, and I'm not ready for her to leave.
Dear 2026, DO NOT.

Also - FWIW - I recommend trying glucosamine & chondroitin just in general.
My now-departed kitty, Dusty, stopped jumping up on things and was in physical distress from arthritis, starting at around age 10. My sister-in-law-the-vet said there was no commonly-used medicine for kitties at that time [the mid 2000's] for this problem. She said there were expensive glucosamine & chondroitin tablets made for dogs that helped, but their formulation was the same as tablets made for humans & that dosage was based on critter weight.
She suggested that I grind some of the made-for-people tablets & give my 12-pound Dusty 1/8 of a teaspoon of that, mixed with her wet food once a day. So I did this. Dusty ate her food without complaint & after a week appeared to be in less discomfort. After 2 weeks she was back to her normal kitty activity of jumping on things & committing cat crimes. I continued adding the 1/8 teaspoon of powder to her food every day until the week she died - at age 24. [RIP Dusty. I still miss her so much.]

Some cats make a bigger piece of your life than others and they leave a bigger hole that takes longer to scab over when they go. But they're worth it because they're so damn special ❤️ Give her all the love.
