Yesterday I had my first appointment with the personal trainer, Butch. (Yes, I am amused I am seeing a personal trainer named Butch.) He's very knowledgable, explains things very clearly, and was very emphatic about his goal is not to have me lose weight - that would be a perk, but that's not what we're doing. We are going to be working on my flexibility, range of movement, and stamina. And lowering my stress, ahahahahaaha.

Anyway, yesterday's appointment was about finding my baseline for those things; relatively low-impact stuff. And yet, I came home wiped out. And creaky. Ugh. I see him again next Friday, and then we move to twice a week.

This is expensive. Something like $600 for six sessions. I'm not surprised (well, I'm surprised it's not more expensive), and it needs to be done. But wow, I'd rather spend the money on other things, and I hate exercise in all forms. But I need to work on this NOW, so that I don't end up in a worse physical state.

Ugh.

As your aging local jock - I am proud of you. Yup, it's probably going to be boring and sucky, in spots but you are totally right to be getting on this train now and it sounds like you have found a good partner in this.

I look at exercise as something I do so Ican continue to do the things I *really* want to do for longer. (I started OT for my broken arm this week, and one of my first questions was 'will I be able to do the things I used to do, and HOW SOON??')

I support you in doing whatever works for you to maintain your mobility! That's really what it comes down to, in the end. Best of luck!

HURRAH! If you need someone to come over in a gothy parody of a cheerleading outfit to prance around, chant, and encourage you, I'm your girl.

As the other aging jock here, I hear you. I discovered that I had lost a lot of flexibility and have been fighting like hell to get it back. Let me know if you need anything, I might have stuff or books, or moral support.
