- So there we were, watching an episode of The Last of Us, and I started humming along with the background music. "I know this obviously, what song is it, what is this instrumental version?", I thought. My brain caught up and I realized it was "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure. After some frantic googling ("instrumental The Cure song carousel The Last of Us") I learned that there is an album of WONDERFUL lullaby versions of songs by The Cure. Yes, I immediately bought it. In fact, lullaby versions of gothy songs may be my new favorite genre.

- I was finally able to make an appointment to go for a blood draw for labs. One giant bruise later - my veins are tiny and incredibly difficult to find - I have won the prize of being hypothyroid. I don't like this prize. I have a telehealth appointment later this month to talk this over with my doc.

- I am very idly considering finding a trusted salon in the new neighborhood and 1) getting my ends trimmed because hoo-boy do they need it, and 2) getting long layers cut into my hair. I either wear a hat, my hair pulled back with some sort of fancy bow or floral clips, or down and as large as I can get it without backcombing the bejesus out of it. Long layers would help with the embiggening, right?

- So not only are the Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, and Ministry all touring (not together, obviously), Siouxsie is playing shows in Europe and The Cure are teasing that they might tour. Eldergoths everywhere are weeping for their wallets.

I refuse to see SOM again, because Andrew's voice hasn't aged well, and I don't want to spend money to see a wall of fog and endure terrible sound to the point of not being able to recognize a song. (Yeah, I'm still mad about the last two times I saw them.) And I'm not a big enough fan of Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, or Ministry to fork over a lot of money and mask up for them. But Siouxsie and The Cure? Hell yes, if they come to the US and are nearby, I am slapping down the credit card and planning my outfits.

Went down the rabbit hole of info on filming locations and then forgot to look up the song source. Thanks for the link.

One good thing about being on Levothyroxine is the freezing cold and fatigue symptoms get better. It is not a great prize only at least it is manageable. Once you get the right dosage the energy you get back is like night and day.

If the synthetic ("synthyroid"?) version doesn't work well, you may need to find someone willing to prescribe the actual non-synthetic stuff.

And you at least have an answer! That might explain the migraines too.

Random things make a post?

If I can do it, you can.

Re: veins, the one and only time I've ever donated blood, I was in and out so quickly that another donor said it was unfair. Alas, I'm no longer eligible: I use girl 'roids.

I have won the prize of being hypothyroid.

Dammit. At least that's easily treatable, I think?

That's an awesome album! And Rockabye Baby have done so many others. Outkast? Snoop Dogg? Very child appropriate, I'm sure!

If you have to win a medical prize, hypothyroidism is one of the ones I'd pick. So easy to treat, the pills are cheap, and life-changing. Congrats on a diagnosis!

Honestly, as medical "prizes" go, that's one I'd like to get. It would offer an answer for so many of the things wrong with me. I hope your treatment plan works smoothly.

I hate COVID more than I love any of those bands, so I'm surprisingly okay with not going to any of them.

I made up my mind a while back that I wouldn't go see bands in concert anymore because (1) concert tickets are crazy expensive and (2) I'd like to actually hear the performers, not the crowd. That said, I would be tempted by Siouxsie if she played the US.

If it is any comfort, the hypothyroid med is low impact.

If you have a naturopath that you trust, talk to them first before starting meds, you may be able to address that way - I was hypothyroid, took a fuckton of supplements and who the hell knows what was in those little jars for two years, and now my thyroid results are normal. But obviously do what is best for you!

SoM have shitty sound everywhere? Cyborg and I saw them at Roseland when we still lived in NYC, and the sound quality was SO BAD we would have to wait until the chorus to recognize each song. We thought it was the venue.

Won't ever spend a penny on Depeche Mode after seeing Dave Gahan violently shove a fan at Madison Square Garden. Jerk. Yes, I hold a grudge.

Well now I don't feel so bad about missing SOM in Brooklyn in June.

That's indeed a shitty prize. I hope that treatment will be something not too intrusive.

it may amuse you to know that there are lulalby version albums of many artists now.

long layers would probably serve you very well with all of these hair shapings, and finding a good local salon is probably wise.

Hyperthyroid sucks. I am sorry sweetie. but at least it has real solid treatments, and you will likely feel far more energetic once they start.
