OMG so tired. Sooooooo tired.

The work conference was fantastic. I made a lot of contacts, many people were delighted to meet the manager of technical writing and ask me documentation questions, and I now have requests from global Customer Success Managers to come visit the NYC and London offices. (The UK Customer Success Manager made the mildly terrifying comment of "I'll introduce you to some of the officers at the London Met. They'd love to talk with you".)

The hotel was terrible. It was a 5-star resort hotel, and not only were the rooms laid out in a weirdly uncomfortable way, but its accessibility design was HORRIBLE. Any elevator was approximately a block away from wherever the stairs or escalators would have taken you, the floors were slick, highly-polished granite, the ladies' restrooms had fragrance dispensers that filled the space with synthetic lily so aggressively that you could smell it 40ft. away from the door, etc. etc. I probably walked about 5 miles every day just going to and from my room to all the meetings. To say I hurt right now is an understatement.

The one other horrible thing, which was nothing to do with the conference, was that the wife of the writer who originally hired me contacted me to let me know Dave passed away on Sunday the 1st. I spent every free moment during the week talking to HR to find out what we needed to do, asking the executive admin to send appropriate things to the family, and breaking the news to my team. Now that I'm home, I expect my own grief will finally hit.

Dave passed away on Sunday the 1st.

I'm so sorry. But I know you'll handle this well, because you handle everything well.

That all sounds like a lot and I hope you have some time to rest up soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. That hotel sounds like a nightmare between scent attack and accessibility.

Phooey on the hotel, a firmly worded letter about ADA requirements likely won't accomplish any changes but it might make you feel better.

I am sorry for your loss.

Traveling to London and being fabulous sounds, well, fabulous!

I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I'm glad you got to meet people at the conference, I'm sorry the hotel was aggressively not good.
