Ah, Black Friday sales. I have opened tabs for several small gothy shops and designers, and I'm probably not going to buy anything at all, because one thing packing has pushed into my brain is that I don't actually NEED any new clothes for a while. Marvel at my restraint.

Not a Black Friday sale, but Bloodmilk did a limited edition release/rerelease of some gorgeous pieces, including my holy grail piece, a sterling silver crow claw holding a rose quartz orb. However, as our life involves paying for two mortgages right now, that wasn't possible. Anyway, I made myself safe from temptation by sleeping right through the launch time, and everything was sold out by the time I looked at the site.

The one Black Friday thing I probably will do is take advantage of Ancestry.com's sale on the DNA kits. I've been a holdout on those forever because I'm paranoid about the data security for them (look, the movie Gattica made an impression, okay?), but I've been reassured by people I trust that Ancestry actually has good privacy controls. I'm curious to see what comes back other than "Eastern European, mostly Slovenian". That's Dad's side of the family; Mom's is a complete mystery.

We have a target move-in date! December 17th! Now let's see if we manage it.

My whole family has done Ancestry except for me! I have a friend who's happily worked for the company for ages, so I want to trust them and I am deeply curious, but the paranoia stops me every year at discount time. One day I'm sure I'll give in...

me & my brother did that ancestry.com test a few years ago.

at first had some interesting results; less than 1% greek & less then 1% indian (as in india) and a small percent (3-4%) french, german & finnish. the rest was Polish, & that part of europe.
but they refined their results a few times. gone is the greek, indian, french, german & finnish. the Polish, & that part of europe has increased.

I have always wanted to do this because I would really like to know what my father's side of my everything is exactly.

Perhaps the next time they do a sale I will be able to take advantage of it, but it is not in the cards this year.

I have heard more than one tale of genetic testing results being sold to insurance companies and the Chicken Little threat of the information being used to deny coverage. Also, yes, Gattaca. Also also, no thanks, the father's side was Ukraine/Russ/Eastern peasant all the way back, not much to say there, and my mother already did her testing.
