Friday brought casting news for The Vampire Chronicles series: Sam Reid is playing Lestat. I HAVE OPINIONS, despite never actually seen anything he's been in.

1. He's too old and rugged looking. Yes, I know the things that can be done with today's makeup and CGI are amazing, but in the books, Lestat is 21 when he's turned. TWENTY-ONE. 
2. Shallow, and again amazing things are possible with makeup, but he's not good-looking enough to be Lestat, who is supposed to be gorgeous. Douglas Booth, who played Nikki Sixx, Boy George, and the really pretty one in Jupiter Ascending, was right over there. He's still too old for the role, but I'd be willing to squint and go along with it. 

In short, I am cranky about the casting, and I doubt he will be able to play my gloriously pretty egotistical rockstar vampire boyfriend. Will I still watch the show if it ever actually gets made? Yeah, of course I will. Still going to be verrrry dubious about the casting.

(There's changes happening to the storyline, too, but I can handwave those: something something Louis will have owned a brothel, not a plantation. Daniel's a college professor now and ... Louis contacts him again? They're looking to cast a BIOPIC for Louis, which I think is a good idea.)

Please dear lord, cast correctly for Armand, even tho' it will make the puriteens freak right the fuck out. Armand is canonically a gorgeous 16-17 year old brat with the face of a cherub.

(My crack-addled notion: Mads Mikkelsen for Marius. I am a simple creature with simple needs, and those include Mads as a vampire.)

Vampire mads is not a simple need. Vampire mads is an evolved, complex, god-tier need.

I feel like I will also end up having Opinions, despite it being years since I read these books. I have no idea who Sam Reid is, but I agree that he's too old.

Especially as you carry things forward. I mean, have we learned nothing from Damon Salvatore on TVD, who was also too old? I loved Damon, but uh, he did not look immortal by the end of the show. It's MUCH easier for people who are actually in their 20s to stay looking unchangeable over multiple seasons.

Antonio Banderas as Armand made me SO MAD. So mad that I still shouted at the screen a few weeks ago when we re-watched it. But not nearly so mad as the 1960's Haight-Ashbury Armand from Queen of the Damned. That was downright table-flipping.

Showed a google page of pictures of Sam Reid to Sean and told him that he was cast as Lestat. "......Ummmm no"
