Having gone to thrift stores two (TWO!) weekends in a row, I have noticed an unhappy trend: Goodwill stores are getting rid of the locked display cases of jewelry and more interesting collectibles. Instead, pieces of jewelry are put in small ziplock bags and hung on spinner racks. As you might guess, anything of really good quality isn't around.
I ended up at the Shoreline Goodwill, and while they still have the display case, the woman who runs it told me it's not long for this world. "Stores don't get gold, sterling silver, or watches anymore - it all goes to shopgoodwill.com. And then management is concerned that jewelry sales are dropping AND stores are seeing higher theft rates. Morons."
However, Min and I did find a charming independent thrift store (run by a local senior center), and their stock was more interesting and far better priced. Time to make myself a list of the small charity/independent thrift stores around here.
The best part of all of this: Spending time with Min and getting out of my house! Yesssss.
