Yesterday I watched Shirley, which is a fictional thriller based on Shirley Jackson and her husband.
It's a great movie, but it's not going to be for everyone. No one is really "likeable", whooooo boy is that a fucked up marriage, and it nailed that unsettling quality that is the hallmark of Shirley Jackson's writing. Tonally, it's a lot like the movie version of We Have Always Lived in the Castle or Stoker.
Now that I've seen it, I want to go read reviews; I suspect that much like Midsommar, there is going to be a sharp gender divide in reactions to this movie. As I said to

Then I checked the writer credits, and noticed that it is based on a novel by Susan Scarf Merrell, who did her MFA at Bennington, and this honestly might be the most Bennington thing since The Secret History. I don't think that's a bad thing, I just find it very amusing.
