People saner than I have pointed out that the adding sequins to the black & ivory Kambriel polonaise is not a great plan. It's doable, but prolly not worth the effort.

Sooooo the idea I came up with today (while lying awake for no reason at 7:30 this morning): I have a ridiculously fancy wide-skirted lace duster coat with ostrich feather trim on the hem and cuffs. It's got velvet lapels, and the rest of it is made from this amazing ribbon-embroidered and beaded lace. (I bought it at Piedmont Boutique in SF over 20 years ago.) I've never worn it to VMB, but it was the standard piece I dressed Cass in when she went to the event with me.

I need to look at the general design of the back and see if I can gather it up in two points from the hem, creating a faux polonaise, and add some sort of closure (buttons, lacing loops, etc.) to the front. Add also add more ostrich trim and a whoooole bunch of sequins.

I'd wear it with a black sequined skirt, my black lace and antique sequin collar/chest piece, and the black wide-ish brimmed hat that is decorated with feathers and rhinestones.

But all of this depends on if my memory is correct, and I can make the alterations I want to the wide-skirted duster.
