Because I've got not quite 3 months, let me second-guess myself about accessories!

The outfit itself? No problem. I'm wearing an enormous black skirt that has layers and layers of asymmetrical chiffon, and a vintage burgundy taffeta polonaise that was made by my darling Kambriel. I'm adding wine sequined lace appliques and trim to the polonaise so it really pops under stage lights.

My recent plan for what to wear on my head was a medium-ish black velvet tricorn - not a full size tricorn, but not a mini one, either - that would also have the lace appliques. But nowwwww I'm wondering if I should get this black lace stand-up collar thing, add wine sequins and rhinestones, pull my hair up, and wear a gigantic floral crown on my head.

(What I really want, of course, is this, but I probably shouldn't spend that much.)

Opinions?

Normally I'd be like Tricorn All The Way, but that collar is awesome. What a dilemma.

Aside: Did you know that The Umbrella Academy (the comic which has been adapted to a Netflix series) was created by Gerard Way of MCR? Because I did not know this until just now, and naturally I had to make sure you knew.

I love the idea of the collar, but it's not something you should go cheap on. The Amazon one will look like what it is, a Halloween costume piece. If you're not able to do a quality collar, stick with the original idea, but add some extravagant flowers and stiffened lace appliques to the hat.

(My outfit will also include a small-but-not-tiny tricorn.)

I agree wholeheartedly.

Sorry Jillian's bank account, but I'd say go for the huge collar (you could even ask them about possibly doing some custom burgundy accents on a black base). The small one really does have a costume look and the scale is too small for any real impact. You're not wanting vampire from Target, you're wanting Vampire Witch Queen. Besides, it's tax deductible since you're working the event as a professional vampire ;)

this. Kambriel has nailed every point I was planning to make. :) Especially the tax deductible for a professional appearance. This is part of your brand building and business operations for GCS. everything about this should be tax deductible including your meals and hotel.

Agreed.

I LOVE the huge and hugely expensive collars. The amazon one looks sad. Although I think it could be made better by adding a layer of contrasting fabric/lace and beading and bedazzling the hell out of it.

Fourthed. The Amazon one is to chintzy & I think it's too small to hold up to additional embellishment (like, it'd need structural work, & if you're doing that much work, why not either make one from scratch or buy a bigger one?).

It's no accident that the model in the stand-up collar thing has a long, thin neck. Personally, I like the tricorn idea! 18th century instead of 19th.

I'm going with the birthday outfit because a) hardly anyone there will have seen it, and b) good grief, I need to wear it dozens of times to get my money's worth.

I'm actually contemplating this (CW-fake gore) and it's matching finger bone crown.

Not sure what I'll do with it yet, but a girl can dream.

I looked at that Etsy link and sighed. I didn't even know that kind of thing was out there. Ah. That would be spectacular and, I think, more unusual than a tricorn. Can it be a business expense?? I'm also tending toward the collar and floral crown combination because I so love the idea of the flower crown!
