I've never had one, but the idea of a tiny space, meticulously decorated and under my control, is SO ENTICING. And you know I'd decorate it to be as much of a Gothic Haunted Mansion as possible. I especially want one to house the Beastlies.

But, y'know. Expensive, time consuming hobby, plus I don't have a good space to display one. But that doesn't stop me from looking at photos and going "oooooh".

THIS WAY LIES MADNESS!!! This is one collection/hobby I am not allowing myself to have. I have some furniture for Veronique Delilah, but I am not allowed to fall down the rabbit hole that is 1/12 miniatures and doll houses. Although if I did, I would make a vampire brothel.

Ooooo, that's a nice one! I had several dollhouses as a kid - sequentially, I made the first few out of cardboard boxes & then finally got a wooden Victorian one I built from a kit & put up scaled wallpaper & the whole deal. And then a wood Tudor style as a gift that I also decorated. It was SO MUCH FUN. I went to miniatures expos & subscribed to magazines & the whole lot. I've always been all-in on my hobbies. Also, my obsession with interior design goes back that far & the aesthetics haven't changed much ;)

if you ever are in Chicago, I highly recommend going to the Art Institutes Miniature Room. so many different styles of rooms that would fit perfectly in doll houses.

They are fun and the last dollhouse kit went to my neighbor when we moved and downsized. Now that we are moving in to a Victorian house the spooky doll house project will have to wait until we furnish and decorate the big house. With 3D printing the world of dollhouse miniatures is even more fun. Spooky small scale shadow boxes take up less space. Love this artists work.

Realistically I like letting my cats in every room & not dusting too much for miniatures/dollhouses, and yet I've always found them captivating, and "tiny space, meticulously decorated and under my control" articulates it in a way that I hadn't yet done for myself.

One day when I'm an independently wealthy multimillionaire, I may consider shadowboxes, because they're better suited to my needs and because I almost prefer the set-scene that they offer as an enclosed, artificial environment—it feels like they can be even more evocative. This is hugely biased by the artist linked by [personal profile] oldhalloween, below, because that work just awes me.
