Yes, I am that sort of goth. Black or red crushed velvet is The Best Fabric. And not that low-pile panne velvet stuff; no, I mean dense, luscious silk/rayon/poly velvet blends.I love the textures and how light plays across it. Also, crushed velvet hides watermarks, and I live in a damp climate. Just about every velvet garment that gets into my clutches ends up going through the Crushed Velvet Process.
My ideal crushed velvet garments:
My ideal crushed velvet garments:
- A red velvet frock coat. I have a verrrrry close approximation of what I want. (The one I wore to the Bauhaus concert.) If I extend the pockets inside the lining, it pretty much would be perfect.
- An almost-floor length black velvet frock coat / cassock. I know it exists. I have worn it. It was made by the sister of my heart,
kambriel, and she kindly let me wear it for the photo shoot we did while I was visiting her in October.

Miraculously, the green velvet frock coat I found labelless in a secondhand store that's since gone out of business appears to be a water-resistant fiber. If I remember correctly I once got caught in the rain on the way back from a convention and my PHONE got damaged from it but not the coat. It's also the most comfortable formal jacket I own.
