I've figured out what I'm looking for in a winter coat, and am determined to find it. It must be:

  • crimson or wine velvet or wool (if velvet, it must be lined)

  • princess seamed, with a full "skirt" to it

  • at least knee-length, preferably mid-calf length

  • have a black fur collar and cuffs (faux would be best, unless it's vintage)

  • at least three buttons to close it

  • be a size 18

Anyone seen such a thing? The vaguely frustrating thing is I *have* (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps) a bolt of heavy cotton-blend velvet in a gorgeous deep wine color. However, the only person I know who could make the coat I want out of it does not have the time or the sanity right now.

But yes. Crimson or wine, with black fur. I've accepted that I'll be asked where I'm caroling at, but I get asked that every winter, no matter what I'm wearing.

So. Any suggestions where I should start looking?

[clears throat, prepares to dust off old chestnut]

Have you tried Crimson Or Wine Coats 'R Us, in Tukwila?

Thank you, and good night.

Argh, now I want one like you're describing in knee-length. And I wouldn't even have a place to hang it.

Have you found a pattern for it (or something close?) Because I bet Spaceling-Amanda could sew it.

I haven't seen it, but I could happily spend hours picking through all the racks at Burlington Coat Factory in search of it. The only way I'd be allowed in there if is I was looking for someone else, as [livejournal.com profile] kittenbasher has basically forbidden me to buy any other outer garments.

Closeish (http://www.bcfdirect.com/IWStoreBCF.process?Merchant_Id=1&proc=IWCatProductPage&Section_Id=16763&pcount=&pn=1&Product_Id=392027) except not fully princess seamed and the wrong color. I'm still looking.

Ooooh. Cute.

I wonder if Clovis would throw a fit if I had a coat with rabbit fur trim. I don't know if he would believe it was made from bad minions ...

Tell Clovis it's not rabbit fur but cat fur.

When I was young, my mom had a rabit fur coat that was made of various shades of rabbit, so it was kind of a calico coat. My cat at the time was a calico. It looked *just like* the coat, in a creepy way.

I know a great retro seamstress in Salt Lake -- want her email? Might be spendy, though.

Hmm, and if you find one, I'd take one too! :> Though I would also accept black, burg. or deep purple! The grand coat search begins!

Try Desire Clothing (http://www.desireclothing.com/). Look at the Victoria in the Coats section. It's the one on the far right of the top row of coats.

Best thing? Canadian dollars. <grin>

Ooooh. Very very close. Pity that their version of an XL would be a smidgen too small.
