Friday was my birthday! 49.

It was actually a pretty low-key day, but I got to sleep in (yesssss), and then went to one of my favorite local small businesses to give the owner a hug for the store's 25th birthday. Gargoyles. I bought the last three Hecate candles they had (almond, patchouli, frankincense, and myrrh), and one Baba Yaga candle (pine and patchouli). Yes, I totally own my witchy cliches.

If you ever visit Seattle and are even mildly fond of a spooky, witchy, possibly haunted decaying castle in a forest sort of aesthetic, you MUST visit Gargoyles. Wonderful art and sculptures, fantastic candles and incense, and just an all-around magical, soothing place. Well, if you find autumn leaves and flickering candles soothing, that is, which is kind of my ideal decor plan. But, alas, drifts of dried leaves on the floor are not compatible with cats or the Stroppy One's aesthetic, so I have to live it vicariously at the store.

---

Today we went to a big gem/mineral/jewelry show at the Seattle Center. We saw many shiny things, but nothing that really called out to us. However, wandering around the show has made me want to find a REALLY BIG topaz pendant set in silver; one of the super-dark smokey topazes. While they're my birthstone, I've never really felt drawn to them until seeing some examples of the super-dark ones at this show. Which, we saw some nice ones, but none of them were quite the sort of thing that made both of us go "OMG YES THAT IS A THING THAT WE NEED". (Okay, "we" being me, but the Stroppy One gets veto rights over any expensive jewelry I covet. Someone needs to rein in my magpie instincts.)

As of today, work is barely over four weeks out from the next big deadline. (The previous deadline was the slightly smaller tech preview version of a deadline.) Expect stress-fueled, sleep-deprived wittering from me.

Oh my god I suck

I am So Sorry! I blame the migraine for forgetting. I literally stared at the date on my computer for like 10 minutes, certain that it was A Very Important Day but completely unable to figure out why. Like a giant wall of THING that would not resolve.

And yet thinking about it being your birthday Very Soon every. Single. Day. Since mid October.

I love you and I am super glad your birthday was rejuvenating and that you got to wander through all the sparkly things.

Pine and Patchouli sounds wonderful.

I'm glad I didn't know about the gem show. That could have been dangerous for me. I'm pretty much in constant need (yes, need) of accessories.

The Hecate candle sounds like it would smell beautiful!

The labradorite pendant of magnificence should be fairly easy to accomplish, especially if you'd consider buying a loose stone and having it set in sterling. You know I'd be happy to help with finding the stone.

I hope it will be a magnificent year for you <3

Happy, if belated, birthday greetings! You are so very cute [and young, compared to me]. I offer you hopes that the year will bring you -all- of the nice feelings and things you want or need."
