Again, I still have Stuff I Want to Post About, but ... still busy. (The tech preview for the dayjob is Friday. Whee?)

I posted a new Gothic Charm School column! Yay! Thank you to my beta readers of awesome!

On the one hand, properly preparing a beef stew -- searing the meat in small batches, letting that sticky, caramelized crust form on the bottom of the pot while you're searing the meat -- is OMG time consuming. And spatters everywhere. On the other hand, the resulting stew is DELICIOUS.

My post the other night about the Victorian Goths taking back the top hats? I used that as a tag on a Tumblr post talking about my top hat decoration project(s), and someone replied with "And goodness Jillian, no one is taking anyone’s top-hats, bustle cages, etc. there’s more than enough for all." Which, they're not wrong. But I still felt compelled to reply, because let me tell you, I have met some haughty jerks in the steampunk community.

I just wish that ALL people who take the time to meticulously dress and accessorize could support each others subcultures. It takes time, effort, and a little courage to be different.

This is my feeling as well. Alas, I have also run into haughty steampunk jerks.

I dress as you at least a little bit pretty often. I'm more prone to showing off my trans gams, though.

My god, no matter where you go, there's freaking fandom wank, isn't there? It boggles my mind.

Hey, I keep meaning to ask, when you've mentioned your awesome dentist, if he's seeing new patients/where he is… I've been going to a really highly rated practice downtown, and I don't necessarily want to leave, but the last time I made a terribly timed appointment specifically so I could see the hygeinist who is so kind to me with all my problems, and then when I got in there (at great difficulty, mind) they swapped me with someone I really didn't like and she made me kind of miserable. And then…my regular guy, the other half of who the practice is named for, turned out to be on "sabbatical" to his native Brazil, and when he came home, he promptly sent out an email to patients that he was moving back to Brazil, been nice knowin' ya, buh-bye, and it seemed to catch even the other partner by surprise, reading between the lines. All of that kind of made me O.o and so I'm not averse to casting around a little, but it's hard to find someone I really feel good about. Your enthusiasm for your guy makes me want to give it a try...

How could it be rude to be goth for Halloween? For some (likely young) goth-dreamers, it might be the only time they'd be allowed to dress as their hearts wish!

I could get a tiny start on dressing like you. XD I do have a rather mouthy/shouty black cat. Two, actually, but one is only shouty when she wants treats. The other talks and mrrps all the time. :D

I was seriously into steampunk about 7-8 years ago, but pretty much gave up due to . . . well, various factors but too much wank being a big part of it.

Life should have more top hats all around, yes.
