Vogue.com has an article about how "mall goth" makeup is THE beauty trend for Fall 2016. My eyes, they have rolled out of my head and onto the floor.

As I've always said, I'm FINE with goth fashion touches going mainstream. Hell, it means it's easier to find certain things. Almost every cosmetic company makes black and dark burgundy lipsticks now. Finding black lace skirts, overdresses, and interesting black leggings has never been simpler. But G-ddammit, I wish the mainstream fashion press would get a new way of writing about goth that isn't "Teehee, we're so DARING with our black lipstick! Oooh, spikes, how edgy! But here's how to style it so you don't look TOO goth, darling."

Also, I know damn well that every one of these mainstream fashion press outlets would be shocked, and possibly horrified, to know that there are those of us in our late 40s (and beyond!) who wholeheartedly embrace goth. I doubt any of them will list black lipstick as an option for the over-40 set in the never-ending Look your best at every age! editorials.

Rantycakes! Get yer rantycakes here!

Oh, yes, all those 'once you're over 40, wear only nude lipstick to make your lips look fuller, and only pastel eye shadow because it accentuates wrinkles'! They can pry my burgundy lipstick from my cold, dead, hands.

Loved the LJ snark at the end, too. Meh.

Fashion editorials are horrid. Ugh

But hipefully this will mean cheap makeup and a bounty in the thrift stores this autumn.

"My eyes, they have rolled out of my head and onto the floor."

Can I have them?

Sorry. Been watching lots of Bones.

i think goth-inspired makeup is SO COOL. but the furthest i go with it is using black eyeliner in the waterline of my eyes, and painting my nails black...with glitter. *G*

i wear a lot of black, but not "goth" looking black. i admire the hell out of people who embrace the goth culture, and have told people that they look really good, too.

...my parents are still asking when i'm going to put a REASONABLE hair dye on my hair, though. it's a magenta/pink that i love. (i've just tried Artic Fox brand virgin rose and it is really lovely. formerly i used SFX brand virgin rose, which was a deep magenta.)
