The weather lately has been perfect: grey and blustery. The weather could stay like this straight into next spring (with rain every couple of days or so) and I would be very happy. Not only is the majority of my clothing velvet (both regular and stretch velvet), but brightbright sun and high temperatures seem to be migraine triggers for me. Yes, I must avoid the sun. I am that goth.

[livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre would be very proud of me, as I spent part of the afternoon weeding the front flower bed and pruning the rose bush that was trying to see if it could grow vines long enough to entrap people walking on the front stairs. I didn't manage a thorough weeding job, but the fact that I even attempted it at all is a positive step away from my black thumb status.

Er, what else? I'm going to see the Cure next week (yaaaaaay!). I made a circle skirt out of vine-embossed black velvet, and want to make one out of red stretch velvet. I've been trying out different recipes. If the weather stays lovely and gloomy, I may bake gingerbread bats soon.

Yep, random babbly update.

Mmmmm....I am very much loving this weather as well. Today especially. I would be happy if it stayed like this for a long time. I think we've put up with *quite* enough summer for one year!

How are you hemming the skirts? And I so want the vine-embossed velvet.

Some day I must go shopping with you. There would be fun. There would be damage to the Visa.

I'm hemming the skirts very, very badly. I'm *dreadful* at hems, and console myself with the theory that circle skirts are so full and fluid that no one will really notice the hem.

The vine-embossed velvet one is the first one I've ever bothered with the step of hanging up and letting the weight of the fabric settle before hemming. In fact, the skirt won't be hemmed until tomorrow, at which point I'll probably do my usual kinda-sorta 2" hemming job, and then cover any sins with ruffly lace trim.

I'm not so good at the hems myself, and I have the same rationale as you.

I tend to hem things with bias tape. It takes yards and yards but there's no measuring involved ...

Oh, and I asked my one MS friend today (got an email from him) if he knew you, and he said that he wasn't surprised that I knew you! Which I took as a great compliment. He looks like a tall Fred Astaire, works in documentation ... when I worked with him he ate 16 oz of chocolate a day. I was always appalled and amazed ...

As long as we don't have to have rain every day, I don't mind the cloudy weather. Full-on sunshine is kind of a pain when riding on the motorcycle...so much glare of glass and idiot people's suncatcher crystals often blind me. And if it's not 90 degrees, it's not so unbearable to wear all my leathers.

Sound like a workable compromise? (Sounds like there's to be no joy in PSDK-ville...we rarely get headcount back once they yank it, apparently.)

I made a circle skirt out of vine-embossed black velvet,

This sounds lovely. I have a thing for vine patterns. The first (and so far, only) piece of furniture I ever bought new is vine patterned and the first (and so far, only) attempt I ever made at furniture painting involved vines running down the side of a bookcase.

Yay for cooler, darker weather. Western Washington is supposed to be temperate, darn it.

Hi! I wanted to apologize for not saying much after I left your table last night. I felt overwhelmed by people and friends that I haven't seen in *ages*. But I did want to let you know that I've added you to my friends list.

Damn it was good getting to see you last night! You're looking fantabulous these days!!
