I know I've raved at many of you about Aromaleigh mineral cosmetics; how their foundation is the Holy Grail of foundations that I've been searching for lo these many years, how their eyeshadows and pigment powders are far superior to ANYTHING else I've ever tried.

Guess what? They finally decided to implement a referral program! So, if any of you decide to place an order with them, could you pretty please use (YIKES! Link removed -- I'll explain in another post!) to do so? It gets you $5 off your first order of $20 or more, and it will earn me store credit.

In case you're reading this and *haven't* been subjected to my gleeful burbling about Aromaleigh: their foundation is a loose powder that comes in two different coverage levels, which you can mix (or have them mix) to create the coverage you want. (I use the heavier coverage powder as a concealer, which works really, really well.) A typical application of foundation takes about 1/8 of a teaspoon of powder, applied with a big fluffy brush. Over the course of a day the foundation doesn't cake, doesn't do that wierd 'separate into little dots of pigment' thing, doesn't feel heavy or mask-like, but instead looks like you have really good skin. (Yes, even over my SPF45 Sunblock of Dooooooom, during the swelteringly hot days we've been having lately.)

burble burble burble. I'm an enthusiastic convert, oh yes I am. Best. Makeup. Ever.

Really? The foundation (and concealer) is a powder, not a liquid? Trying to visualize this...

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

It's composed of extremely finely-milled mineral pigments. From what I've experienced, it seems to bond with your skin so it doesn't migrate, settle into any wrinkles or fine lines, and doesn't smudge or wipe off, but washes off easily with any facial cleanser. It's just like using loose powder, but with freakishly good results.

My goodness. I just might have to check this out. How is it for covering blemishes and getting rid of dark under eye circles?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

The "Pure Cover" hides the horrible, never-go-away dark circles under *my* eyes. I use 1Y for that, and the yellow cast completely negates them.

1. thanks for the link; I shall use it on my next order.

OK, here's a selling point. *I* am wearing the stuff. Makeup. Me. Stuff on my face. ME. (My favourites have been the Alabaster, the Moon Gliter, and the Ivory Neutral).

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I was going to send you email asking how you liked it, now that you have your own jars to play with.

My little C-ko, wearing makeup! sniff I'm so proud ...

Seriously, I'm glad you like it.

Not about makeup, but related....

You're the one who mentioned Black Phoenix Alchemy Laboratory, aren't you? Have you ordered anything from them, and if so, do you like it?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Re: Not about makeup, but related....

I've placed two different orders with them, and I absolutely adore their scents. (I usually wear either Velvet or a combination of Black Rose and Bliss.) Just be warned--orders are currently taking 4-6 weeks to get to you, because the gang at the Lab are swamped. Everything is absolutely worth the wait, however. Aaaaaand did I mention they always throw in a handful of sample vials so you can try even more scents? Well, they do, which is how I discovered I like Black Rose.

I eventually plan on going through the months-long process to get a custom scent from them.

From: [identity profile] stephl.livejournal.com

Re: Not about makeup, but related....

I've gone through their site 2 or 3 times, to come up with a list of 6 I'd like to sample, and Velvet was a semi-finalist, but I bumped it in favor of Black Lotus.

I saw that they were super-swamped -- in fact, they closed the site to orders from the 20th until tomorrow. But I can wait.

My list (the last 2 I expect I'll either love or loathe):

BLACK LOTUS -- Black lotus flower, amber, myrrh and sandalwood.

BRUJA -- A blend of myrrh, amber and lilac.

LIGHTNING -- The electric tang of ozone, marine notes, and a drop of sharp rain.

QUEEN MAB -- Black orchid, sandalwood, night-blooming jasmine, osmanthus, Somalian rose, and Chinese musk.

HELLFIRE -- A swirl of pipe tobacco, hot leather, ambergris, dark musk and the lingering incense smoke from their Black Mass.

LOVIATAR -- The slap of slick, hot leather punctuates the warm, sensual embrace of black amber, red musk and dark, lascivious myrrh.

Re: Not about makeup, but related....

Out of all those, I have Queen Mab (I got it as a freebie sample on my first order), and I do quite like it.

Re: Not about makeup, but related....

You can see from my list that I like warm, dark, somewhat freaky scents. Am intrigued by dragon's blood.

I don't think that link links to your referral! It just took me to the home page.

I'm sold, but don't know what color to get. I have been happy with cameo in prescriptives, ivory in that Max Factor blendy stuff, and the lightest shade of Water Canvas ... any suggestions?

I'd get samples first. For your skin, probably 1Y, 1W, 1N, and 1L.

From: [identity profile] orthoepy.livejournal.com

Thanks!

I have to say it sounds a little too good to be true. I'm willing to believe, though ...

It felt *really* weird to box them all away.

But I did! My skin has improved, too, but that's mainly because silicones (which are in most foundations) make me break out in uncomfortable ways.

Also, instead of taking 30 minutes? My foundation application now takes 3, and that's if I'm being obsessive about it.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I think the link takes you to the home page, but gives you a cookie of some sort.

minim is right about getting the samples, and she listed the ones I would have suggested, too.

From: [identity profile] bork.livejournal.com

I also suggest the samples. I got 6 little baggies of different shades. It looks like a very little amount of makeup, but it lasts a long time.

St. Francis shoot me, I'm talking about makeup....

I should ping you when I run out of Studio Fix if not sooner.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Sooner. A few light dustings of Pure Cover would give you the same sort of coverage as Studio Fix, and won't be as bad for your skin.

(Studio Fix does *awful* things to my skin, and always goes cakey and goopy after an hour or so. You may be one of the lucky few who can wear the stuff.)

From: [identity profile] weaselmom.livejournal.com

I too will clicky clicky so you get credit. Did you get any eye colors that you particularly like? Then again, I'm looking at more of the neutral stuff, so perhaps never mind... You may have to show me in person how to apply the dratted foundation, though.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I really like the Tea Rose Pure Hue, which is a shimmery pinkish-gold. Mom got samples of Cupid, Kiss, and Venus, and all of them looked like nice neutrals.

(I also love the Pure Hues of Peony, which is a shocking fuchsia, and Ruby, which is, well, sparkly deep red. To me, those are neutrals. Yes, I accept that I'm crazy.)

I will happily show you how to apply the stuff. Hey, and excuse to be social with you, oh Hermit Lady!

Alright, I'm sold

Really. Well not like it takes a lot to make me purchase more makeup. I'm not even waiting until I finish my current foundation, rebel that I am.

The samples are a good idea, but I still have no idea where to start foundation-wise. If you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful (for selecting colors, not which ones would be best--difficult to do when you've never seen me in person). Otherwise, I'll just order a bunch and go from there.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Re: Alright, I'm sold

Well, are you pale? Do you know if you have warm or cool undertones to your skin?

As an example: I'm pale, and have discovered that cool-toned foundations are a skosh too pink for me, while peach-toned ones turn me orange. When I tried a sample of the lightest tone in the Linen family, it matched perfectly; however, I had ordered samples of the lightest shades in the Pink and Yellow families *too*, in case I needed to mix and match.

Have you looked at the site yet? They have 31 stock shades. If you can't find a match in those, you can mix shades until you do.

geeble geeble geeble! makeup makeup makeup!

The utterly stunning creature with me in this picture (http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/langsm623/detail?.dir=/6f4f&.dnm=d6f6.jpg) is Maria, otherwise known as MFNLaw.

Also (see my comment below), in this picture, you can see how *much* pinker I can get.

Re: Alright, I'm sold

Now that I've looked at the picture of you with Teppy, I would suggest getting samples of 3C, 3N, 3L, and 2P.

From: [identity profile] mfnlaw.livejournal.com

Re: Alright, I'm sold

Ooh, now to go order and wish for instantaneous shipping so I can play with my new stuff NOW. Thanks ever so much.

And Tep, I'm no more gorgeous than the lovely creature standing beside me. We radiate the hott-itude.

From: [identity profile] stephl.livejournal.com

Oooookay. Call me a sheep. I looked at Aromaleigh's pure powder foundation, and....what shade(s) should I sample? You've seen me, but this icon is pretty accurate. I am very pink and only get pinker as I get warmer. I am also shiny. I would like to reduce both the pink and the shine. Suggestions for sample shades?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Get samples of 2L, 2C, and 2N, with a 1P and 3C thrown in for good measure.

Tell me, tell me!! What shades should I get?
