I know I've raved at many of you about Aromaleigh mineral cosmetics; how their foundation is the Holy Grail of foundations that I've been searching for lo these many years, how their eyeshadows and pigment powders are far superior to ANYTHING else I've ever tried.
Guess what? They finally decided to implement a referral program! So, if any of you decide to place an order with them, could you pretty please use (YIKES! Link removed -- I'll explain in another post!) to do so? It gets you $5 off your first order of $20 or more, and it will earn me store credit.
In case you're reading this and *haven't* been subjected to my gleeful burbling about Aromaleigh: their foundation is a loose powder that comes in two different coverage levels, which you can mix (or have them mix) to create the coverage you want. (I use the heavier coverage powder as a concealer, which works really, really well.) A typical application of foundation takes about 1/8 of a teaspoon of powder, applied with a big fluffy brush. Over the course of a day the foundation doesn't cake, doesn't do that wierd 'separate into little dots of pigment' thing, doesn't feel heavy or mask-like, but instead looks like you have really good skin. (Yes, even over my SPF45 Sunblock of Dooooooom, during the swelteringly hot days we've been having lately.)
burble burble burble. I'm an enthusiastic convert, oh yes I am. Best. Makeup. Ever.

OK, here's a selling point. *I* am wearing the stuff. Makeup. Me. Stuff on my face. ME. (My favourites have been the Alabaster, the Moon Gliter, and the Ivory Neutral).

My little C-ko, wearing makeup! sniff I'm so proud ...
Seriously, I'm glad you like it.

I eventually plan on going through the months-long process to get a custom scent from them.

I saw that they were super-swamped -- in fact, they closed the site to orders from the 20th until tomorrow. But I can wait.
My list (the last 2 I expect I'll either love or loathe):
BLACK LOTUS -- Black lotus flower, amber, myrrh and sandalwood.
BRUJA -- A blend of myrrh, amber and lilac.
LIGHTNING -- The electric tang of ozone, marine notes, and a drop of sharp rain.
QUEEN MAB -- Black orchid, sandalwood, night-blooming jasmine, osmanthus, Somalian rose, and Chinese musk.
HELLFIRE -- A swirl of pipe tobacco, hot leather, ambergris, dark musk and the lingering incense smoke from their Black Mass.
LOVIATAR -- The slap of slick, hot leather punctuates the warm, sensual embrace of black amber, red musk and dark, lascivious myrrh.

I'm sold, but don't know what color to get. I have been happy with cameo in prescriptives, ivory in that Max Factor blendy stuff, and the lightest shade of Water Canvas ... any suggestions?

I have to say it sounds a little too good to be true. I'm willing to believe, though ...

But I did! My skin has improved, too, but that's mainly because silicones (which are in most foundations) make me break out in uncomfortable ways.
Also, instead of taking 30 minutes? My foundation application now takes 3, and that's if I'm being obsessive about it.

minim is right about getting the samples, and she listed the ones I would have suggested, too.

(Studio Fix does *awful* things to my skin, and always goes cakey and goopy after an hour or so. You may be one of the lucky few who can wear the stuff.)

(I also love the Pure Hues of Peony, which is a shocking fuchsia, and Ruby, which is, well, sparkly deep red. To me, those are neutrals. Yes, I accept that I'm crazy.)
I will happily show you how to apply the stuff. Hey, and excuse to be social with you, oh Hermit Lady!

Alright, I'm sold
The samples are a good idea, but I still have no idea where to start foundation-wise. If you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful (for selecting colors, not which ones would be best--difficult to do when you've never seen me in person). Otherwise, I'll just order a bunch and go from there.

Re: Alright, I'm sold
As an example: I'm pale, and have discovered that cool-toned foundations are a skosh too pink for me, while peach-toned ones turn me orange. When I tried a sample of the lightest tone in the Linen family, it matched perfectly; however, I had ordered samples of the lightest shades in the Pink and Yellow families *too*, in case I needed to mix and match.
Have you looked at the site yet? They have 31 stock shades. If you can't find a match in those, you can mix shades until you do.
geeble geeble geeble! makeup makeup makeup!

Also (see my comment below), in this picture, you can see how *much* pinker I can get.
