This evening, I indulged in going to the Qua spa here at Caesar's Palace. Seattle folks, imagine a Roman-themed version of the Olympus spa: clothing optional, lots of pools to wander from, saunas, and steam rooms, but with gentle atmospheric lighting, free water, juice, tea, and snacks. Plus all the heated towels you could ever want, a heated cedar closet to hang your robe in while you relax in the pool, and two different pools with "rainfall" sections, where you can lounge in the warm pool while warm water gently rains over you. Needless to say, I was delighted.
But I think my very favorite feature was the "Arctic Chill" room. It was a room tiled in shimmery blue, white, and silver glass tiles, with a heated floor and benches. That's important, because the ambient temperature in the room is 55 degrees, and there's snow falling from the ceiling. SNOW.
Okay, not actually snow. It was very fine clumps of soap bubble foam, but it looked and fell like real snow. I would go lounge in heated pools for a while, shuffle into the dry cedar sauna for a bit, and then go sit in the snow room, trying not to giggle out loud.
I also indulged in a body scrub/moisture treatment, and learned about the differences between spa treatments at a posh atmospheric spa and the ones at places like Olympus. The body scrub I had today did NOT remove a squillion layers of skin from every inch of me, unlike the ones at Olympus. No, the "Sand and Foam" treatment was very gentle. Here's the brochure text: Ease into this treatment as a drizzle of milk foam caresses and prepares your skin. Then a Pure Fiji scented crème scrub exfoliates dull unwanted skin. Both sand and foam are rinsed with multiple Vichy shower heads hovering directly above your body, keeping you warm at all times. Exotic scented hydrating lotion melts on your warm skin for a finishing touch.
Yes, the sell-text is ridiculous. The scalp massage with argan and coconut oil was very nice, and the whole thing was a lovely, relaxing time, even if I was very amused by how posh spas keep clients "modestly" draped while performing services. Yes, there were towels over my breasts and bottom at all times during the scrub and moisturizing. Very different from the fierce ladies at Olympus!
The whole experience was delightful. The only way it could be better is if there were helpful minions to bring absinthe and chocolate.
