The yard service guys showed up this morning and mowed the lawn, yay!

They apparently bumped the safety shut-off thing for the gas. I discovered this by not having any of the burners light when I tried to put the kettle on for tea after I stumbled out of bed.

After some back-and-forth texting with the Stroppy One, he talked me through going outside, finding the safety valve, and resetting it. Relighting the pilot light(s) for the burners and oven was fairly straightforward. Neither of us wanted me to attempt dealing with the water heater pilot light on my own, but Eric came over and helped me with that, thank goodness.

I know, I know, I often need a better adult than myself around.

It's the cover of a vintage Reader's Digest collection: Six Gothic Tales, and it's possibly the best Gothic Romance cover image that has ever existed. Even better than the cover for Lord Satan.

My father-in-law was a meter reader for the gas company. There is no shame in calling the gas company to re-light one's pilot lights, because that stuff is scary... and they'll do a quicky leak-check while they're at it (because they don't want their customers' houses blowing up - it would reduce the corporate income, for one thing...)

Hooray for re-lighting pilot lights!
