There needs to be a local gothy/alternative yard sale.

It can't be held at my house, for various reasons. Maybe I should check out rental prices at local community centers?

I'm also crap at organizing things.

Anyone have any suggestions for possible locations? Possible dates? Wanting to join in?

(Yes, this is partially because I was too busy during the run-up to the Time Travelers Rummage Sale to deal with the clothing I want to cull.)

I think end of this month beginning of next is best. It would give everyone time to pull themselves and their things together.

I have *no clue* where we could hold it though. But I do have a garment rack now.

It's just too hot to go through my storage at the moment.

Hmmmm…road trip to Seattle would be fun.

[livejournal.com profile] psychopompous_9 and I wound up throwing a Great Gothic Garage Sale with a few friends, right before I moved to Texas. She and I both desperately needed to cull our wardrobes, and since her Dad manages the building that she lives in, which had some untenanted retail space on the lower level, we were able to set up there.

Here's the info I put up about it:

CLOTHES RACKS are really essential -- you can never have too many! A community-center room (or if someone has an apartment complex with a party room, that would be an option) is a good idea, if you can get a few people together to pool their resources and have a group sale.

It was a lot of fun, we had reasonably good attendance (probably would have been better if we'd been more centrally-located), it was a chance to say goodbye to a bunch of local friends before the move, and all the participants had a decent amount of fun. I made about $500, donated a bunch of stuff to charity, and took a few remaining high-value things back with me, if I thought they would sell in another venue.

I would have loved to do some swapping, but everyone there was smaller than me -- alas!

Wishing you luck, and I hope that this turns out to be fun, lucrative, and productive in terms of trimming your wardrobe -- I *so* wish I could make it over there, because not only would it be AMAZING to see and squish you (yay!), I also totally want to paw through your closet excess, because you have amazing taste and an exquisite wardrobe ;)

*big hugs*

If I had the money to fly out this would be an amazing distraction for me right now. Sadly, no.

I'm sure you'll find good homes for all your stuff.

I wish I could help more with distractions for you. But you have a new dog, yay?

Yes. She's really sweet and would have been put down the day I got her if the kids hadn't looked pathetic.

No worries. I have a month then I'll be home and done until I end up doing something else insane (Australia).

A: Jilli will probably require at least two or three of these; B: I have a hide-a-bed. You are welcome to it, should you ever have the money to fly out.

There is no C.

This could be an option once I get everyone settled down home. On the other leg, if either of y'all ever wanted to visit Florida, I also have a pull-out AND like five air mattresses (plus a huge pool and I'm from the Gulf Coast, not the nasty Atlantic).

I have a garment rack and several dress dummies. I also have some things left over from our yard sale.

You know I'd be in favor of this, and I'd even like to see something regularly scheduled, maybe even semi-annually or quarterly; this is one of the things I'm hoping to work on when we're settled. In the near term, as long as we're unpacked, I'm in, and if Jen can host we can make it happen.

A regularly-scheduled sale would be a fantastic thing.

Yes, let's get you settled, and then start plotting.

This would be awesome. I'd LOVE to be able to find some secondhand gothy things, especially if anyone has stuff in at all my size. (16-20, on average, although a large 14 will fit; this does depend on things like fabric and such.) I'm all the way down in Oly but I'd definitely make a trek up to Seattle for that. ^_^

I do know community center rooms can be rented for a few hours, you would have to check on the prices. You *might* be able to make use of a library's meeting room, but you'd have to check on how they feel about a garage sale type thing.
