I was woken up earlier than I am used to nowadays, because today was dental surgery day. Three wisdom teeth are no longer in my head. (They're now in a sealed bag from the dentist, and I will eventually turn them into jewelry.)

Apparently it only took about 15 minutes to extract them, so yay? But the lower half of my face is still numb, and I am groggy and woozy. I've had some Greek yogurt with honey, some applesauce, and a mug of bone broth with an egg whisked/cooked into it. And a bottle of Stumptown cold brew coffee OH THANK G-D.

So, I'm okay. Now to heal up.

I regret not asking for my teeth when I had all 4 wisdom teeth out a couple years ago. The doctor asked if I wanted them, and I said no! I blame the drugs. I should have had my husband in the room, he would have given the proper answer.

At the consultation, the oral surgeon said he usually discourages patients from taking their teeth home, medical waste, proper disposal, blah blah blah. I just looked at him, and he finished with, "But you probably have your reasons, so remind us at the appointment."

Heh - indeed. That's interesting, my doc had no such concerns. 3 of mine were impacted, so I was convinced that they were in pieces, from the horrid sounds of the extraction.

I had mine taken out when I was 13. Now I wish I'd gotten to keep them to turn into things!

You have my complete sympathies. I hope healing goes quickly and well.

I probably shouldn't have waited as long as I did to finally get mine pulled.

I MISS YOU. Once I'm healed up, we should get together.

Yes! Definitely! I can make you an I Can Chew Again meal, if you like!

Oh! I keep meaning to mention: I'm going to be growing mandrakes. Real ones, none of this "American mandrake" thornapple crap. Proper Mandragora offincinarum (var. autumnalis). (Also trying henbane and belladonna, both of which are also sacred to Hekate.) I have a source for seeds (http://www.alchemy-works.com/mandragora_autumnalis.html), if you want to try growing them yourself. If you don't, well, in a year or so, if all goes well, I may have a root to spare, for the right witch.

Heh. No, it won't. Even if *I* forgot (which I won't), you know that the Stroppy One wouldn't.

True. :)

Also, take this week as a rest week. Write some, when you have brain for it, but know that *actual real rest* will HELP your body heal faster. Much like protein and fluids, rest is a big key in letting your body focus its energies and mending

Yes! If you feel inspired, some soft tofu would go well in it, as that just melts in your mouth. Naturally, avoid seaweed, veggies, and the like. But the tofu, while bland, will give you protein.

Oops, saw this after sending you some messages elsewhere.

You're doing well with the food for day one. I don't think when I had mine out (at 18) that I had anything more than maybe a single bowl of jello that day. Hopefully the nourishment will help you recover sooner.

Raises a sorbet-smoothie to fewer headaches in your future & some lovely/macabre jewelry out of the deal.

Oh, there's no chance of my not eating - while I may not feel like it, the person double-checking on me and my aftercare will not let me get away with no food. (Hi Pete! I love you!)

I SO hope all of this helps with the headaches.

No drinking through straws, yada yada yada. But I'm sure you'll feel like a million bucks when you're better.

I was able to keep all six of my extractions (four wiscom and two molars broken by two wisdom) but I wasn't able to make neat stuff with them. It was creepy enough that I still had soft tissue attached to some of them.

I spent part of last night sketching out what I want to do with my teeth. I need to find the right reliquary-style locket.

If your body likes the stuff, extra vitamin C right about now helps with clotting. Speedy recovery, and *oooh!* shiny teeth jewelry ahead!

sending healing your way
today will be the worst day.
rest and sleep as much as you can

Yeah, I'm discovering today is more painful than yesterday. Ice packs. I like ice packs.

Homeopathic arnica can also help w/recovering from any kind of surgical trauma--it's something I wish I'd had back in the day when I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth out at 18. (They let me keep mine; 2 came out in pieces, and 2 were perfect beautiful teeth. I really should see about getting some earrings made...)

Garlic broth, if you like such a thing, can also help--the quick & dirty version involves slicing and sauteing 2-3 cloves of garlic until just starting to soften/brown; add 2 cups of water & a touch of paprika (I suggest smoked Spanish) and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Crumble up a couple of slices of French/other white or non-nubbly bread into broth and let simmer for a few more minutes until nice and mooshy, add a pinch of salt if you like, and for an extra oomph of protein, poach an egg on top. Garlic is nature's antibiotic, and the egg and bread should make it more filling and give you a boost. Bon appetit!

Good luck on recovering smoothly! Food and coherent thoughts on the first day - you're already miles ahead of where I was when I got mine out. I think I slept for 2 days and couldn't attempt solid food until a month later.

Thinking lots of ice-pack themed thoughts your way. :)
