Oh please. It would be Gothic Charm School, of course.

HOWEVER - I know a bit about the behind-the-scenes workings of "reality" shows. As much fun as it is to daydream about a Gothic Charm School show where I swoop in and help gothy types, the headaches, heartaches, and scripted "drama" that the genre demands means I will stay far, FAR away from such things.

(Yes, scripted. You didn't really think that reality shows weren't scripted and edited for maximum drama, did you?)

Actually I know someone who is a WRITER for reality TV shows, so, yes, I knew :) She's married to a friend of my fiance. They live in L.A. She's nice people but a little surreal to actually talk to. We tried to watch one of she shows she worked on once. It was... painful.

What amuses me is that if you cover the right subject matter, you can get your own baked-in drama and not really have to exaggerate it. But no, producers have to go for the crap factor. I really can't help but roll my eyes and shake my head.

I think the only show that came close to being not manipulated to some degree was the earier seasons of Cops, and mostly because it was the childhood of "reality TV", before producers felt like the audience was getting bored and that they needed to really exaggerate things to keep attention. I won't say it was not exaggeration-free, but I think it was more in the editing than in the action at that point.

Nowadays..."reality TV" really -isn't- reality, at least I don't think it is.

I would like to see you travel around and gothify non-goths like a spooky Fab Five(Queer Eye)

A friend of mine appeared on Oddities once, and his report crushed the last shards of my belief in "reality" shows.
