Thank you to everyone who posted about their jewelry and personal talismans! It was fascinating reading. Also, I hold [livejournal.com profile] starpolish responsible for the fact that I am now trying to find a miniature silver version of The Key To Hell from The Sandman. Because ... yeah. Because.

Yesterday's outfit ended up including strands of pearls from both of my grandmothers, along with all the other personal talismans. And yes, all of that made me feel more centered.

Another thing I do in times of emotional stress is make playlists. (Back at the dawn of time, it was mix tapes.) This is the current one, named Invocation. It's a work in progress; it feels like it's almost done, but I can't put my finger on what songs may be missing. Maybe something by Siouxsie? Anyway, yes, all female vocals, and a lot of Faith & The Muse. But at the moment, the most emotionally resonant song for me is Lily by Kate Bush.

Wytches Chant '98 - Inkubus Sukkubus
Lily - Kate Bush
The Chorus Of The Furies - Faith & The Muse
Iago's Demise - Faith & The Muse
GINGER SNAPS THEME - Mike Shields
Big Furry Head - Amon Tobin
Under the Fate of the Blue Moon - Jill Tracy
E volentieri - Mediaeval Baebes
Death Is The Ultimate Woman - Monica Richards
Satin - Unwoman
Hollow Hills - Faith & The Muse
Voodoo - Wench
Yes, Anastasia - Tori Amos

That's a powerful list.

I found myself listening to Siouxsie's "Cry" and "Dazzle" a great deal after Jessica's death. FWIW.

I've been been waffling over this one: http://www.newport-news.com/shop/product_single.aspx?style_id=43436273

I really, really like the cut. Do I like it enough to pay that price? I just don't know.

I don't have most of these, so I can't answer (read: solve) this riddle. Alas.

And you know me and playlists. (which reminds me... I have some compilations I should get back to soon)

I'll like it better once it's on clearance, assuming it doesn't sell out, naturally.

Siouxsie, yes. Also, Florence and the Machine? Miranda Sex Garden? Rasputina?

Yes, I have a lot of female vocals in my collection too. Shocking!

Though not female vocals, but nevertheless a very emotional song, is "gravity" by Miyavi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q_nJkj7TDY). He dedicated this song to all the people, who live in misery since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. He even considered to cancel the tour, but instead decided to put up donation boxes for the Japanese Red Cross Society at his concerts. The money I had planned to spend on merch now helps some Japanese child get food and a blanket.
The clicky link provides you with the lyrics and translation (though it's not the best, it still gives you the gist of the song).
This song always gives me the goosebumps. I don't even have to understand his words literally, I can sympathize with the emotion transported by the song's dynamics and his singing.

Oh, as I searched the songs of your playlist, I came up with Mari Boine. She does stuff like this (). The songs do not have lyrics as such, most are based on jojk, which is just the melodic expression of emotions and descriptions of nature and its beauty.

There definitely are sterling silver The Key to Hell from Sandman necklaces out there. I got mine at a shop in New Orleans, in the Quarter on Decatur called Gargoyles but it was before Katrina. Apparently it changed hands and is now called Wicked Orleans 1201 Decatur St New Orleans LA 70116 (504)529-4384.

Mine stays on a sterling silver chain along side my titanium band (with 4 tiny diamonds) band that I bought while pregnant and is now too big to wear on my ring finger and just a smidge too small for my other fingers or thumb. The ring is something I fidget with all the time. My other ever present necklace is a sterling silver New Orleans street sign of Bourbon and St Louis.

::squee!:: I love mine, though it is far from miniature and was made by a local artist on comission. Doesn't help that I am ridiculously tiny, but it's a few inches long. Unfortunately, that relationship ended the DAY AFTER I posted, so it's kind of a sad talisman, but I am not going to let that ruin the beauty of the piece. It just may be some time before I can wear it without feeling sad. It's going to be a testament to my ability to move forward and be weird all on my own. ;)

My twitter is penny__dreadful and you can see a picture of it there, by the way.
