The Stroppy One and I were in the car, driving down to Portland for this weekend's Vampire Ball.

Then one of the car tires blew out.

A nice state trooper came and helped us, and it looks like the tire blowing out did ... something ... to the ABS. (There's a loose cable that looks like it should be attached to the tire, and the ABS indicator light had lit up on the dashboard, and look, neither of us are what you would call mechanically inclined.)

So. The Stroppy One is going to stay home this weekend. I am taking the train down to PDX tomorrow. There is a good chance I am going to take my work laptop with me and just stay the week with [livejournal.com profile] cass404, since we are going to the MCR show next Friday, too.

Exciting. Yes. Not the sort of exciting we like, but oh well. Dammit, 2011! Start not being awful, okay?

Hopefully this means that everything else about the weekend will be completely and utterly wonderful and eclipse the memory of this. Tomorrow, we wear ridiculous outfits. And drink.

Mmmh, some years ago no car had ABS and, wonder of wonders, they did work. So, IF it was the ABS, I don't see why you shouldn't drive the car, ABS isn't exactly vital for getting from A to B afaik. It just assists breaking on slippery ground, which isn't even vital as such, because you can 'fake' ABS by braking shortly and repeatedly. That's about what the ABS does. People tend to make themselves way too dependent on computers and mechanics these days...

Just my 2 cents.

Is it a loose wire, or is there a connector attached to the end? If there's a connector, you can just plug it back into the sensor on the back of the wheel hub (where you bolt the wheel to) and it'll work again. If the wire is broken, depending on where the break is, it could be repaired easily.

This should be a pretty easy fix-and a needed one. If it's only the ABS warning light on, and not the brake system warning light, you ought to be able to get it to a shop and repaired. But I wouldn't drive it for very long in this condition-it can cause more problems later.
