- I did not win the auction for the fangirl-bait jacket. Alas. But I had my limit, and didn't get into a bidding war. (Dammit, but it should have been MINE. ::stamps feet::)

- A post by [livejournal.com profile] theosakakoneko (over at [livejournal.com profile] sew_loli) about decorating a skirt with hand-written song lyrics has started me thinking about the wildly intricate Dracula-themed skirt I have been daydreaming about making. Yes, I want to make a skirt and inscribe passages from Dracula on it. Preferably a black skirt with silver text. So! I need to practice, practice, practice to improve my handwriting, and I need to find out what the best brand of silver fabric pen out there is.

(Yes. Dracula skirt. If I'm REALLY lucky, I will be able to persuade the Stroppy One to help me draw tiny silver bats on it, too.)

(Listen closely. That sound you hear? It's the Stroppy One trying to find his eyeballs, as they have probably rolled right out of his head.)

I'm thinking iron on, custom lettering would be better.

Or maybe using one of the Cafe Press loopholes and uploading a graphic of text, then taking the printed fabric and making "frames" on a skirt? The pillow cases maybe?

I could do handwriting on it for you if you think it would fit the look you're wanting. All those absurd days of me doing flourished handwriting even just to jot down notes at school should benefit someone, somehow ;)

::grabs Nosferautu postcard sitting next to the computer, looks at your pretty, pretty handwriting::

Ooooh. Yessssss, this is a good idea, and I may take you up on it!

Oh dear, I bet that was "casual" ;) Did you ever get one of the original Atrocities catalogues back in the 90's where I'd go all out on how I addressed the envelopes, with silver pen on black linen envelopes? I can all but guarantee the J in your name would have been topped with a bat!

I made those Nosferatu cards (collaged on with ModPodge) ~ probably back around that same era. I had a couple extra stashed away for years and when I saw them, realized one really needed to live with you :)

I have to second doing the layout in a graphics program how you want it. Add in the art work then have it custom printed on fabric at spoonflower.com or one of the fabric sites. Then your favorite seamstress could assemble a skirt or any garment. The bonus with this method is its colorfast so its easily washable. The problem with metallic markers is they will fade and most likely change color too. With the Stroppy One using his mad art skills there is no limit to the custom fabric creations you could create.

There is also the option of playing around with text in a computer program and printing it out on iron-on transfer paper. This would give you the ability to play around with placement and sizing before committing it forever...?

Probably a good idea to practice your handwriting anyway. After all, you've got the Macabre Mary Poppins look going on, might as well pick up all the skills from the time. ;)

I made plans in October to do a dress of "The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock", but never bought the black silk to do it with. I should perhaps resurrect the notion.

Also, I Have An Idea. When I get home, I am going to tell you about it. Yes.

Sigh...sounds perfectly lovely!

Now my creative insensibilities are running amuck. I do so need a new sewing machine and I would love to get a surger as well...

You could screenprint it. It would take a few different screens, though. I can't remember if Queenie still has her yudu or not, but if she does perhaps you could have her do the printing and then send you the fabric to make the skirt with? I'd go with one layer of Jaquard's super-opaque white ink, with two coats of lumiere silver on top of it. Dharma Trading is the best source for the inks/paints, and they are pretty darn close to you!

I have a pair of tights I wrote poetry on, and have always wanted to do a blouse, skirt, or dress in teh same way. :)

Too bad about your auction! Hope you'll get another chance for that jacket...
And your DIY skirt project sounds very nice! :)

I have only just realised it was my friend who was selling that jacket :/ I missed her mentioning it on twitter. I could have put in a word, i realise this is no help now but still.
