Her doctor put her back on the ventilator, she's still sedated, and she's still in ICU. BUT, her color has improved, and the swelling has gone down.

The very short form: 20 some years ago, my Mom had leukemia (and has been in remission since I was about 11). Due to chemotherapy and transfusions, she has Hepatitis C - no big deal, she wasn't contagious, it was just one of those things. Until it finally caused cirrhosis of the liver.

The main thing right now is to get her system stable and her breathing on her own. Once that happens, then treatment for the liver issue can be figured out.

Dad says thank you to all of you for the well-wishes and prayers, and promises that if he needs anything, he will let me know immediately. The same goes for me to all of you.

Stroppy One has been a Very Good Husband through all of this, and been taking care of me. I don't know what I'd do without him.

((A tangent: I don't think I want to use my "hiding" icon for the ongoing Mom posts, but I don't think the "leeches" icon is exactly appropriate. Hilarious, but maybe not appropriate. Time to look at all my icons again.))

thoughts with you and your family. I'm bad at this stuff. I kind of suck that way, but it doesn't mean I don't care. :)

I'll keep on praying for her, and sending good thoughts your way. *hug*

Thank you for letting us know.

Still sending all those good thoughts, and [livejournal.com profile] morthael inquired about things and sent his thoughts as well today.

I'm very glad things seem to be looking up, of course - and continued good vibes/wellwishes/candles/incense/the lot of it in your family's general direction.

Hoping for the best treatment and results possible. And would you like me to bake treats and send them to you for the ICU nurses? It never hurts to feed the nurses treats.

Thanks for the update-- I kept wondering if I'd missed a post but didn't want to intrude and ask. Many prayers and good thoughts to you and yours.

Question, if you will. Would you like your mother to be put on my church's Prayer List? We're hippy Episcopalians in Rainier Beach. No offense if you do not take me up on this, I just thought that I'd throw that offer out there.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Yes, please do that. My parents are agnostic and I'm a wacky pagan, but I believe in the power of prayer no matter who or what people are praying to.

Thank you.

From: [identity profile] bork.livejournal.com

Will do! Is there a name she would like to be listed under? Otherwise, I'll just list her as a friend of mine.

From: [identity profile] wbyonder.livejournal.com

Wow, leukemia and cirrhosis. That sounds eerily familiar. My thoughts are with you and your family. If your mom would like to talk to someone else that's been through both I would be happy to visit. At the very least you can tell her that you have at least one friend who survived both and is healthy and happy now. If there's anything I can do just let me know.

When my liver failed there was talk of liver dialysis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liver_dialysis). At the time the closest hospital doing it was in Chicago. I don't know how far it's come in the past six years. Just something you might want to ask about.

As a nurse, I understand what a horror cirrhosis is. As a daughter, I understand the horror seeing Mom in danger. I'm really, really, really hoping that she keeps improving. My heart's with you, Jillian.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Even though I can't really imagine what it must be, having never had to live through that, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Wow. This happened to my mom, hep C and then the liver in her 50s. Good luck, the fact your mom is responding as you've described makes me feel very hopeful. My thoughts are with you.

From: [identity profile] scarysammiekae.livejournal.com

After taking care of my grandmother for years, I learned that medical science is amazing and the power of a person's will can be as strong as steel. I hope your mom makes a full recovery! Well wishes to you and yours.
