Of Goths On Makeover Shows, And Of Parental Concern About Provocative Clothing.

I owe an even bigger "thank you" than usual to [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, [livejournal.com profile] maiaarts, [livejournal.com profile] sirriamnis, and the Finishing School of Flail. I talked about a hot button issue of mine, and they made sure I didn't go completely into RantyLand.

So, new post! You know the drill, folks: please help spread the word? Thanks!

REALLY well put regarding the rape victim-blaming issue. I'm so glad you brought that up. The whole thing was handled so well because while it is important to challenge the misconception that dressing a certain way will or will not lead to sexual assault, it is also a shame when young women are in such a rush to emulate sexy role models. I think you stressed both points very well and gave constructive advice for how to make the look a bit more adolescent-friendly!

Thank you. Victim-blaming just makes me see red, but I also wanted to get the point across that maybe the outfit wasn't entirely appropriate for a young teen.

THANK YOU for the link to Scarleteen! I'm...ahem...a woman of a certain age, but was just discussing the subject with a friend who is the parent of teenaged boys. I think it's magnificent advice to babybats and youngsters of all types. Bravo!

Thank you for leading the Babybat to think about provocative clothing choices in a non-judgmental way!

I am definitely getting older, as I look at some of the clothes that These Kids Today wear and am shocked that a parent would allow a miniskirt that short on a teen, shocked!

Appalled is not far from the truth either.

Victim-blaming is disgusting, but JonBenet Ramseying our children is also disgusting.
