A while ago I finally treated myself to the Nevermore claw ritual necklace from bloodmilk. (clicky-link to her Etsy store!)

I love it. The pendant has a nice heft to it, and those talons are *sharp*. However (you knew there'd be a however, right?), I'm considering altering the necklace. I'm idly considering taking the claw and 7 of swords connector and hanging it from a strand of ivory glass pearls. But I can't decide, so hey! I'll ask you nice people!

It's so intricate and beautiful that I would leave it on an antique chain. However, I'd pick a stronger/more durable chain for it than the one it's currently on.

I would use different-sized beads -- maybe tiny pink beads in between the faceted black glass beads.

I initially read that as "Neverwhere" and was completely baffled.

Anyway, aesthetics or not, it'll certainly mean more if you've altered it, soooo

Garnets and black pearls, actually. Or just lustrous large black freshwater pearls (Alexander's on Roosevelt - conveniently located across the street from Zenith where you might pick up an ounce of menthol crystals for your head, and around the corner from Whole Foods).

the Ivory might be nice, but I think something a little iridescent and black would just *feel* more right. you could even do small pink pearls in between.

Or, if it was a bit beyond your magics to make pearls into awesome, Tammy or I can do it if you hand us the magical ingredients.

(razzafrakkin why do I have no JEWELRY icon???? I need to do something about that)

Well, I was using options I have on hand. Large black freshwater pearls would be *lovely*, but I don't know if my budget will stretch to that. Hmm, time to take a look at the Fire Mountain Gems and Shipwreck Beads sites.

honestly, go to Alexanders. They are pretty inexpensive for a string of large freshwaters. You will be surprised. They are on par with, or less than, swarovski pearls. They really do have amazing prices on them.

Alexander's is okay but a bit pricey. You'll find better deals on the Freshwater Pearls at Fire Mountain or Shipwreck beads.

I have found that their large freshwater pearls are on par for price. Other stuff is higher, definitely... but the large freshwater are well priced.

I like the idea of white pearls and blood red crystals in the rosery style.

Too bad you can't find a way to drill tiny holes in the tips of the tallons and hang little blood-drop crystals from them. That would look awsome.

It would look striking, but I want to keep the talons unadorned.

Rocaille beads in midnight glass with the silver showing through.

Touch of elegance to suit the splendid claw.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Oooh, how difficult and/or expensive are those to find? They sound gorgeous.

SHIPWRECK BEADS!

ROAD TRIP!

PS I have some silver rocaille and they're not quite what I like for that claw.

There exist such things as cultured, color-treated, resin-encased faceted freshwater pearls, and they are marvelous, and come in a number of colors (some dark and rich), and someone I know has a source for them and might be convinced to sell some. Then you could have pearls AND facets.

Ooooh. Tell me more! (Privately, if you wanna: jilli (at) gothic-charm-school (dot) com.)

Ha! I was just in Love It To Death today, and one of the owners (Audra) was talking on the phone about the Bloodmilk line.

Actually I saw an Actual Bat Skull necklace that I thought you would like and a number of fascinators.

The items from Bloodmilk are just stunning. Her cojoined twins skull ring is another thing I've been ogling.

Good, great. You've now posted about the claw necklace enough times that I just finally gave in to my drooling desire for one.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

You won't regret it, I swear. Just watch out, because the talons are SHARP.

It's so creepy and gorgeous. I've been debating it for a while and even as I posted my comment I was hoping it wouldn't come across as fan-girly. ;)
