On Wednesday night at the Vogue, a young lady asked me if it ever "picked up" there. I said that it did a bit later on, but that not a lot of people made it out on weeknights. "But it's Goth night!" she replied in slightly scandalized tones.
Yes, yes, Wednesday is Goth night (so is, I suppose, Tuesday night at the Merc, but since I haven't attended DIE in over a year, I'm not going to talk about it). I remember when Fridays at the Vogue were also a variant of Goth night (as opposed to the stompy mixed with 80s night it's been for a while); I remember when Fridays at the Merc were gothier than they are now. But the harsh truth is Seattle's Goth scene is more industrial and ebm nowadays, and I don't see that changing any time soon, no matter how much I stamp my pointy boots.
But! When I go out to the Vogue on Wednesday nights (or the rare Friday night), I keep seeing other Goths that I don't recognize. Gothy-goths, all dressed up and wearing gothy makeup. Could it be that my Seattle isn't Goth anymore assumptions are all wrong? Gosh, I hope so. One of these evenings, I might even go and talk to one of these mysterious Other Goths and find out where they've been hiding.
A question for those of you who DO go to the Mercury on a regular basis: has it gotten any better? The past few times I actually went out, it seemed overwhelmingly crowded, smokey, and kind of "the same old thing". I'd like to be able to go out on weekends, but those previous experiences at the Mercury didn't really thrill me. I may start going to the Vogue on Fridays more often, just so I CAN go out on the weekends.

Today's Shallow Fashion Details:
- pointy-toe Fluevog flats w/ big silver buckles
- black tights
- b&w stripy skirt w/ black lace hem, in a vaguely mermaid style: the front is a straight panel, the back is half a circle skirt that has been gathered just below the knees
- white high-collared blouse w/ a black-edged, white ruffle jabot, adorned with a black cameo pin
- black stretchy high-collared princess-seamed jacket w/ a batwing point hem, unbuttoned to mid-bosom so the ruffly jabot cascades properly
- hair in two low pigtails, the usual black feather-adorned top hat
- makeup consisting of concealer, translucent powder, black eyeliner on the upper & lower lids, a sheer wash of red shadow in the crease of my eyelids, and Vamp lipstick
Yesterday, one of the items I recently won off of eBay showed up: a black fountain pen with an overlay of a silver spiderweb design. It's very nifty, and I want to go sit somewhere with a nice notebook and write with it. Not that I have anything I desperately need to sit down and write out in longhand, but the fountain pen is gorgeous. I've discovered that there is a specific ink blend that not only is a gorgeous deep red color, but is rose-scented. I think I need to find some for this pen, yes indeed.

And might I be so bold as to suggest, er, penning the next Gothic Miss Manners with rose-scented red ink?

I want Wednesday-night-Vogue music on Friday night. That's what I want. Yes.
(BTW, you look exceedingly cute with your hair in pigtails. I didn't get a chance to tell you that during the shopping trip.)
