I decided to burn one of my "Mexican Cocoa" -scented candles. It is sitting in a Jack o' Lantern -styled candleholder, on the corner of the end table here by the sofa, where I can enjoy it.

I just watch Trinian, Queen of Fuzzwumpia and possibly the dumbest cat alive, hop up on the arm of the sofa, stick her nose at the flame and singe her whiskers. She looked confused and turned around, sticking her very fluffy tail directly over the flame.

Yes, my dim cat just tried to set herself on fire. The really sad part? This is not the first time she's done this. The main reason I don't burn candles often is because Trinian has no brain or survival instinct, and I have had nightmarish visions of her lighting herself on fire, panicking, turning into a running, flailing fireball on four legs, then setting the house alight.

I am reminded of the time my cat jumped in the microwave...
Don't we just love our dumb kitties?

Our special cat, Kimi likes to rub against everything, everything must love her and she must love everything. One time, she jumped in Jesse's lap for loves and we noticed that her whiskers on one side were completely melted at the tips.... apparently she tried to love the heater. *sigh*

Awww, a cat with the memory of a goldfish! *_~

Is the candle by any chance from Pacifica's Mexican Cocoa range? I recently discovered a UK Ebay merchant selling the perfume & have been dithering about whether or not to try it out. The description of the fragrance sounds divine.

Reminds me of when our one kitten, Moe, who is really cute yet mind numbingly stupid, was sniffing my bath water. I kept flicking water in his face to make him go away . . . that didn't work, so I just grabbed him, dunked him up to his front legs, and let him go.

Has he tried it again?

Yes.

OH stupid kitties, how we love thee.

Did he then run around the house dripping? And approach electrical appliances?

. . . . . Yes. The three pound little poo head.

Then my husband got him in a towel, and he fell asleep promptly. (after about three minutes. Hey, he had to get a towel first!)

He is really really cute, but dumber than a bag full of feathers.

My Dad's cat, Fuji, does this sometimes. He never learns. He's solid white and luxe looking and I call him Supermodel, because he's beautiful and stupid. LOL

I remember when those home-video shows first started airing, and I saw a clip where a kitten walked along the back of a couch, waved his tail in a candle, then turned around and bit his tail to put the fire out. I'm guessing Trinian does not do this.

OH SWEET JESUS!

That is the funniest, most terrifying thing I've read all day!!!

I admit I laughed out loud at that though I also feel bad for the kitty. Katy's cat, Bob, will burn his whiskers on radiator heaters because he gets so close to them. My mother had a dog that loved to lay under the fireplace hearth. We'd pull him out when his skin was hot to the touch - silly thing!

My friend's cat LOVED to do the same thing with a wood stove . . . the little fluff ball (she was a very long haired kitty) would be boiling to the touch when she decided to get her ass out of there.

First thought: oh Trina, not again. Then I read the rest of the post.

*shaking head*

Your last sentence there had me laughing so hard. I can empathize though, I have some rather dimwitted felines as well.

Goodness,I thought my kitty was the only one crazy enough to do that! Only one side of his face had whiskers for weeks after he decided to investigate my pumpkin spice candle O__o
