Of Finding Everyday Goth Clothing. With pictures! (Polyvore, Eater of Free Time.)

A big round of thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, [livejournal.com profile] maiaarts, [livejournal.com profile] water_of_fire, and the Finishing School of Flail! Thanks, ladies, I couldn't do it without you!

As usual, if you wonderful people could help spread the word about the new post, that would be lovely. Thanks!

I flailed when I read your new post. My dear Mom just sent me the jacket in your first Polyvore set as part of a care package from home (along with other slightly Victorian items and a copy of Tim Burton's Alice) <3 It took her a while to come around, and she went through an "I won't buy you anything black or from Hot Topic" phase (which just meant I wore a lot of the same stuff - something I was used to since my school had a strict uniform), but she's finally grown to appreciate my gothy aesthetic. Especially once it took on a Victorian flair several years ago, first or second year of college, and I started alternating between goth and steampunk. I actually think continuing to see items that could be worn as part of a goth outfit in mainstream stores and in fashion magazines might have helped her accept it to a certain extent. Once I started to have my own money and attending concerns, I really started to appreciate the gems one could find in mainstream stores for reasonable prices instead of pouting over my lack of access to subculture-specific retailers.
