In the useless trivia department it's called a corona, and it's usually visible only briefly. Fragments of it are more usually seen at the 4-5 o'clock position and the 7-8 o'clock, and are called sundogs--because Apollo--the sun god--had hounds trotting at the wheels of his chariot.
If you happen to be in an aircraft at the right altitude while there is a rainbow present and you look out the window, it will appear at a citcle because it is all about the angle at which the sunlight is going through the water in the air... or something like that... Yay for useless trivia... But their rarity means that I have never seen one, so you guy and gals are lucky! If anyone took a photo I'd love to see it... :)
