I am thinking that with the ruffly overskirt it leaves you off-balanced. If it were *just* the underskirt (and crenolines, of course) it would be cute and elegant. With the overskirt it leaves you bottom heavy. The overskirt needs larger hair accessorizing to balance it out.
I like the bow, although there was a moment of cognitive dissonance at your head looking oddly naked sans hat; however, I think that it would work better with a simpler skirt, as a more pared-down look.
I don't think it's too cute or cutesy, but it's true that it creates a more vulnerable, less powerful/challenging/forthright impression. If that makes ANY sense. Eh...what I mean is, a top hat (large or small) continues the blend of masculine and feminine contained in the combination of black and pink and the mix of military stylings with petticoats, making for an aesthetic statement which is disarmingly frivolous and whimsical, but still has bite.
The bow does not have the same impact, but it's still rather charming for an occasional change, or for more casual moments. (And not mutton dressed as lamb.)
La Daughter and I both voted "cute." (After I explained the phrase mutton-dressed-as-lamb to her.)
She also wants to know where you buy your hats. I took her to the Peacock Blue Design Studio site, and now she's lusting after this. (http://www.peacock-blue.com/page/choruslinespecialedition.cfm)
The mutton rule is a tough one since who is to say if you don't dress like the mainstream? You are the rule book for Gothic style in the work place. FWIW its not a bow so much as that bow isn't very flattering.
It's cute, but it's definitely at the outer limits of your accustomed dignity. You can get away with it in black, but I would not recommend ever trying it in pink!
I'm not really a hat person so I either wear a big bow or flower in my hair every day. We are just about the same age, so my vote is most definitely cute!
Whoever decided that bows in the hair are only for young misses, anyway? Who decides these things? And surely we as goths, who have decided that it is perfectly allright, fashionwise, to wear velvet in summer, stripey tights with printed skirts, high heels to anything, black lipstick in the day, and all the rest, can decide that a ribbon in the hair is not Too Much? Why do we need to follow regular societies age rules when we don't follow their color rules or the fashion rule that says we should all wear pastels in spring?
I wear bows, and I'm a bit older than you. That being said, I find that it looks better when I have them contrast with my hair. If I have a black bow, it gets lost and makes it look like I have a lump on my head.
I vote the bow cute. I think it looks more grown up than expected because the black blends in with your hair and makes it nice and subtle, instead of OMG SO CUTE GIGGLE! or something like that.
I think the bow is cute but its to cute for your style in some way. Its lacking something like the others said. It doesnt pop out and say HI, like the things you wear do.
I like the bow in you rhair. Too bad the headband thing gave you such a headache. Maybe you cold try a clip (or 2) next time. Or maybe sew it onto a hair comb.

I think the bow would look cuter IMHO on top and not off to the side.

I, on the other hand, look like one of those appalling yuppie trophy wives when I wear a bow. Sticking with feathers and flowers, that'll be me.

I think if the bow had been smaller, or pink, it WOULD have been too much, but a large black one seems more fashion-savvy, and less Lolita.
Do you know what I mean?
