Oh look, more mainstream coverage about how the fashion industry is going "Alice In Wonderland! How quirky!" http://ok.co.uk/okfashion/view/19066/Alice-In-Wonderland-Tim-Burton-s-new-movie-ignites-kitsch-punky-chic/

"ALICE In Wonderland fever is spreading across the globe, with Tim Burton's new 3D adventure inspiring a new trend for kooky, gothic fashion, make-up and jewelery."

Hey, some of us have been dressing in a "kooky, gothic" style for YEARS. Decades, even. On the other hand, this current trend is going to be fantastic for stocking up on some things. I'll admit, I'm a more than a little tempted by the headbands with bows, but I fear that would stray too far into mutton dressed as lamb territory.

(And yes, by the way, I do have a bottle of the OPI "Mad As A Hatter" glitter nail polish, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre. It is, indeed, sparkly and awesome.)

I have been covetously looking at this Disney Alice In Wonderland teapot (clicky-link!), because I've been looking for a second Alice-themed teapot for a while. But I must be strong, because I don't really NEED another teapot, and I should save spending money for things like, oh, the vendors' room at the Vampire Ball, new Fluevogs, and so on. Which ALSO means that I should not go tootling around Etsy, looking for Wonderland-themed goodies. No, no, I should not.

Also, this means that there will soon be affordable knock-offs, and eventually, the trend will end up on sale racks and in thrift stores. So I will glean and try to be patient until then, and just enjoy the pretties. Oh, who am I kidding. I'll be drooling over all the good stuff. lol

They used the word kooky . . . *shudder*. That word irks me.

Though those socks do look nice . . . but I can get almost the same thing at the dollar store for far cheaper.

That red queen tank top is amazing. I NEED IT.

You don't want that tea pot, it's not made well and would only be a disappointment.

Oh those silly newscasters! Just because Tim decided to do a remake of a classic in his famous Burton-esque style doesn't mean this is anything new!

The first of his movies I ever saw was "Batman." In the theaters. As a wee lad. Yeah, THAT ONE, with Jack Nicholson as The Joker. Best Joker ever, by the way, right up until "The Dark Knight" though Heath Ledger's Joker was less chemically-altered-into-madness and more straight-up-fucking-insane. Point is, Tim Burton has a very distinct style, and being exposed to it as young as I was only made me enjoy it that much more now.

But it's still nothing new. Hush, media.

Headbands with bows extra cute, I say grab them now and then after this trend blows over(which it will) you can wear them.

The Claires US site has an Alice Trend section. I love the little teapot necklace.

A few baubles can equal one killer item, so I'd wait. Or at least try to. :o)
No fair Tim Burton getting all the credit! Gosh, you'd think people have already seen the movie it's been so hyped. But yeah, I did get the Mad Hatter top hat ring. ;o)

1. I think you can get the socks in the first image at Sock Dreams. Or something awfully close.

2. ...I seem to have no worries about being a mutton in lamb's clothing...but then, I'm 30 and can pass for younger. It always cracks me up on the lolita comms when someone's like, "OH NOEZ I'm 23 I have to quit lolita waaaaaah!" WTF. Seriously? I'm 30 and just getting started. I wear headbands with bows (not huge ones) or pigtails and knee socks (with fun patterns) all the damn time. I did decide that Peter Pan collars look stupid on me, though...

Anyway. What I mean to say is that if the bows aren't huge, I don't see why they wouldn't look awesome on you.

Oh, THANK you! I would've gotten around to looking there, but who knows how long it would have taken me? :)

I'm 22, and I'm planning on being BURIED in Lolita :D And I don't intend to die anytime soon...

Totally agree - this is not a new trend. I never wore it myself but saw something similar in a couple of comics and magas (Angel Sanctuary springs to me). But if it can make gothic fashion items affordable for someone like me who lives on a budget, then why complain?

And I was tempted by a Mad Hatter tote bag at Claire's.

I was in Hot Topic the other day, and I really had to restrain myself. Aside from all the Alice merchandise, there were some cute mini top hats that looked decent enough to be worn without cringing embarrassment (and I limited myself to one for now, I'm proud), and lots of ruffly, delicate-looking wrist cuffs and jewelry.
I wouldn't get the *lace* wrist cuffs, the lace looks cheap and scratchy, but the ruffled ones were darling.
