The first two days of the new job did NOT, surprisingly, suck. This team is much more organized than my last team, to the extent of there being a print-out on my desk listing all the software I still needed to install on my machine, the meetings I would be attending every week, a list of the relevant internal sites, and my manager stopping by with a *hard copy* of the appropriate style guide. No, none of this is SOP for the Evil Empire.
The getting up early to be at the office by 9AM was also not as horrible as it could have been, either. Not only did everyone thinking sleepy thoughts at me help, but researching insomnia gave me a new thing to try. 5-HTP. "5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a compound produced by the body from tryptophan. It is naturally found in many foods and most commonly extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia plant. In Europe, 5-HTP has been used for decades as an approved treatment for depression, sleep problems, weight loss, and other medical complaints. It is now starting to be used in the USA." I've been taking it for three nights now, and not only have I fallen to sleep much MUCH faster, but I wake up quicker. I haven't been suffering from the usual morning zombie state. I'll post an update about how it's working in a week or so, 'cos I'm pretty sure there are some of you out there that could benefit from this stuff (
weaselmom, I'm looking at you here).
Right now, I'm being a vaguely cranky ElderGoth because I want to go out and do something gothy and social, but the idea of going to the Merc is not at all appealing. I know there won't be any music I like and it will be too crowded and far too smokey. So instead, I'm going to languish around the house being overwhelmed by ennui, because I'm So. Damn. Goth.
But on the whole, things are good.

I was talking to Staxx last night and 5HTP was brought up. I am actually looking into trying that soon as an addition to my multi and b-vitamin regime. I'm researching it more right now. :)
I should mention this to Martin as well because he has a pretty serious sleep disorder.
BTW, the glitter pinstripe batty dress is done ;)

Seriously, the 5-HTP seems to be effective so far, and it's only been three days.

There's gotta be a downside to your super-organized workgroup. They sound like the Stepford Team. Maybe they will insist that you wear a little pink jumper to work or start each day with a prayer or something...

The edgy feeling is managed by only taking one pill every other day. So I get a boost but it does not layer. :)
