Just got back from taking Dread Beastie to the vet. The lumps on his face & head are NOT cancer. They're a localized collection of white cells (granulocytic something something) that can be caused by his immune system going a bit wonky. Not dangerous, and can be reduced by steroids. The steroids will also help with his ever-present wheezing and congestion, but could also leave him susceptible to a bronchial infection, so he gets an antibiotic in addition to the steroids. He's soooo not going to be thrilled with me forcing various pills down him every day, but oh well. Since the steroids will reduce the various swellings, that means his nose will stop bothering him and maybe, just maybe, he'll stop scratching it open.

The vet said he seems in very good health. She also said she was glad that she hadn't seen us in a year and a half, because that meant Beastie was doing well.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, peeps. They meant a lot.

Whew. Here, have a coincidence: I just found out this morning that the vet thinks the Puppigrrl has a mast cell tumor on her ear. She's having it cut off on the seventh along with a couple of (benign) lipomas and the Foreleg Thing That She Just Can't Stop Licking.

As for pills, hmm. I don't suppose cats like peanut butter, do they?

Yay! For Beast!
Sigh! Of relief for you :)

Very glad to hear that. And I found with Zedong's recent injury (which is just fine now) that liquid antibiotics from an eyedropper are easy to administer, probably easier than pills.

Whew. Good news, sweetie!

One of ours, Slim, seems to have a mild infection in her right eye. Bad timing....

Yay, Beastie!

FWIW, liquid antibiotics were much easier than pills to administer to Rudy, as well.

HOORAY!!! Much happiness and relief from our house. Spydrman, the kitties, and I all hope the steroids get it all cleared up soon. :)

Our house send *BIG LOVE* to your house.

Hey! Okay missy, where'd you get the user picture? Because that looks an *awful* lot like the Dread Beastie. :-)

of course it does. that's the Boo Kitty. :) Getting him to pose for it was a MAJOR BITCH AND A HALF though.

What great news! I'm glad that he's okay. :)

I still think that he passed his size on to Sid. You told me once that the Beast was impressed by a huge kitty that he saw when he was wee. Well, I think he was the same kind of inspiration for Sid. <grin>

Give the Beastie skritches for me.
