Within Temptation is a good band, and I agree with the previous poster who suggested Nightwish.
Now, if you want bombastic, I'm going to recommend Moonsorrow.
This is a completely serious suggestion. They're not very Goth, but they have a very 'epic' sound. Bonus points - they sing very epically in Finnish. Bonus points for wearing armor on stage and generally looking like they could sack Rome at any second. They may be too metal for you, but they are fun. Embedded video (hopefully in pink) here:
