On her advice, I checked out a thrift store that I had been to once before, but wasn't much impressed with. I strolled out of it with a black satin skirt and two giant-skirted wedding dresses, all for under $10.

Yes, under ten dollars. One of those giant-skirted wedding dresses is hand-made out of silk satin, with at least 7 yards of skirt.
