I need recommendations for good-quality men's walking shoes that have good arch support and good cushioning. The Stroppy One needs shoes that will be good for the deathmarch that is San Diego Comic Con.

Obviously, since this is our household asking, multi-colored or white running shoes are Not An Option. Just in case any of you thought you should make with clicky-links of "funny".

I dunno about you, but my Men's Fluevog Angels are about the most comfortable walking shoe I've ever owned. Damn expensive though.

That is a very good suggestion. Mind you, if Pete gets new Fluevogs before I do, I will weep gothy tears of woe. WOE, I TELL YOU!

(Congrats on the company launch! I'm very excited.)

You ain't seen nothin' yet! The next month is press releases for all the insane projects I have going with this company! Can't talk about it till then!

Hmmm.

Might not be quite his style, but I swear by Vasque hiking boots :)

Asolos are pretty good too.

Oh, will you guys be at Comic-Con? So will I!

MBTs-- Lewis swears them and he's on his feet all the time at work.

I was going to suggest the angels as well...but was beaten to it.

Though, the lucky angel's only come in calf high anymore, so i am a sad monkey :(

I <3 mens Clarks Oxfords. Check out their other styles, but these were the first that struck me: http://www.zappos.com/product/7148042/color/2462

I have had very good luck with black Born's. I've had two pairs of them and they've been very good with good support.

Check with billytea to be sure, but I think its Cole Haan that makes nice men's shoes with Nike guts.

T. swears by Merrells (check zappos.com for best selection) for travel & for when he's working. He's on his feet *all day* during a shoot, so comfort is very important. Merrell's are mostly hiking shoes/boots, but the few walking styles come in basic black leather. Nothing fancy, but very practical & last forever.

Classic DMs have always been good for me. I wear shorter ones and they are really comfortable for daily walking around.

I need orthotics in my DMs for maximum arch support, and I'm wary of their quality since they switched to manufacturing in China -- my UK pairs are 3-5 years old and still serviceable, and friends have had Chinese-made ones crap out on them (BLOWN soles) in under a year, one as little as three months.

My Double-H jump boots have decent arch support without orthotics, but if you're looking for a men's dress shoe with good arch support, I'd try Birkenstocks. Some of their styles don't scream "hippie granola," and one style actually passed for RevWar shoes when the replica ones were going to aggravate my ex's plantar fasciitis.

A couple of male teachers worked all day in Eccos on linoleum floors. On their recommendation, I got some of the girly ones, and they were marvelous!

Seconding the Eccos; I bought two pair for [livejournal.com profile] hendersj when he was on the road: he's still wearing them. I was so impressed I bought a pair of the women's flats for myself.

James has had good luck with basic black Rockport walking shoes. Something similar to these (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/2577731/c/3.html).

For a dressier look, he's got a pair from Clark's, in their "unStructured" line - which are the only "dress" shoes he's ever had that are really, actually comfortable. I think they're these ones (http://clarks.zappos.com/n/p/dp/34365755/c/72.html)

Interesting article about the mythology of shoes. Walking or standing around shoes are probably different, but it does explain why I feel better running in my jungle boots than I do in my running shoes.

I third the vote for Fluevogs. Comfiest shoes I've ever owned.

I work in restaurants and only ever wear Merrels.
And they do last forever and have decent black styles.

Peter swears by Rockports - he loves the black ones :>

From: [identity profile] oldhalloween.livejournal.com

Currently mine is wearing Rockport but likes his Clarks in both dress and casual better. The lace ups that many UPS drivers wear are Clarks and people we know with hip trouble love them too.

Sanita/Dankso shoes.

Not the most stylish of shoe but it is the only shoe I have EVER heard Rory comment that his feet felt better AFTER work than they did beforehand. And we're talking 8+ hours standing/walking/lifting/etc on a cement floor.

Now I have a pair and they are very, very comfy.
